Managing information systems (IS) projects is a notoriously difficult task. The project manager is a crucial player in a successful IS development project. This research examines how a project manager's prior experience and risk propensity influence his or her decision making. An experiment was conducted that showed that both experience and risk propensity have significant influence on the decisions made.
This paper shows how to software pipeline a loop for minimal register pressure without sacrificing the loop's minimum execution time. This novel bidirectional slack-scheduling method has been implemented in a FORTRAN compiler and tested on many scientific benchmarks. The empirical results-when measured against an absolute lower bound on execution time, and against a novel schedule-independent absolute lower bound on register pressure-indicate nearoptimal performance.
Important database security issues arise from the increasing number of users having various levels of access to both central and distributed databases. This article addresses some of the security issues and security measures necessary for database access controls to be effective in a client/server environment. This paper also examines the problems associated with enforcing stated DBMS access controls, and how the data administration team can work with top management to ensure that the current database security strategy is consistent with the goals of the organization. Although early security techniques utilized an approach of simply limiting access to corporate data, today's demands for data availability have created a new subset of related security issues.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
