The increase number of Covid-19 outbreak has profoundly changed our education system. This condition has led the teachers to alter the face-to-face learning into online learning. Online learning emphasizes on the internet-based courses synchronously and asynchronously. Besides its technical problems, conducting online learning was said to be monotonous since the teachers preferred doing online tasking to providing effective learning experience. Further, this condition led to low students’ motivation in learning English. In other words, the students might be in boredom to participate and engage in the teaching- learning process owing to the monotonous learning. Most students were said to be late or even reluctant to complete the assignments. Therefore, the researcher conducted the Classroom Action Research dealing with the use of Google meet to improve the students’ motivation in learning English during the online learning. The research subject was the 7th grade students of SMP Negeri Satu Atap Jarit. The research was conducted in two cycles. In cycle I, it showed that there was an increase of students’ motivation in learning English. The increase of students’ motivation was 61, 8%. Meanwhile, in cycle II, the researcher found that the Google meet significantly improved the students’ motivation in learning English. The increase of students’ motivation was 79, 4%. The result showed that the students actively participate and engage in the teaching-learning process. The students were very enthusiastic to respond and answer the some questions, and share their ideas related to the topic of the meeting. In addition, the increase of students’ motivation influence the students to compose sentences correctly related to the given assignments. Based on the result of data analysis, the researcher drew a conclusion that the use of Google meet significantly improved the students’ motivation in learning English during the online learning.Keywords: Google meet, Learning English, Students’ Motivation
Vocabulary is an essential component in learning a second or a foreign language. It is one of the most important aspects of obtaining all four language skills; reading, listening, speaking, and writing. Therefore, teaching and learning vocabulary should be done through various-interactive media so that children are interested in acquiring it. Integrating gamefication-based learning media can be utilised to support the teaching-learning vocabulary. In addition, Paper-Mode Quizziz can be used as a game-based learning platform offering multiple tools to make a classroom fun, interactive, and engaging in learning vocabulary. This research aimed at investigating the use of Paper-Mode Quizizz to improve students’ vocabulary at eighth grade students. This research was Classroom Action Research conducted at eighth grade students. The research subject was 8C grade students of SMP SSA Negeri Kloposawit 1 Candipuro. Further, this research was conducted in two cycles. In cycle I, the researcher found that the eighth-grade students’ vocabulary mastery was improved. The average score was 72,4. Further, in cycle II, the eighth-grade students’ vocabulary mastery was much better than in cycle II. the average score was 81,4. It showed that the use of Paper-Mode Quizizz profoundly improved the eighth-grade students’ vocabulary mastery. In addition, the students were more enjoyed, actively participated, highly motivated, and engaged with the use of Paper-Mode Quizizz in learning new vocabularies. In short, the implementation of Paper-Mode Quizizz profoundly improved the students’ vocabulary mastery at eighth-grade students in learning English.
As information and communication (ICT) has grown rapidly, there are many forms of technology provided to support and facilitate the teaching and learning process. Game-based learning these days has been growing interest. It is not only purposed for the teaching-learning media but also for the assessing phase. Quizizz is one of game-based learning platforms offering multiple tools to assess the students’ learning progress. It provides Paper-mode quizzes using printable or a quick-response code. In this research, the researcher deals with utilizing Paper-mode Quizizz for formative assessment in English teaching and learning. This research is a case study with qualitative data conducted at SMP SSA Negeri Kloposawit 1 Candipuro involving 41 students from 8A and 8C as the research participants. Further, to obtain the students’ perceptions, the researcher collects the data through interviews. The result indicates that most students show positive perceptiveness in utilizing Paper-mode Quizizz for formative assessment in teaching and learning English. It is stated that Paper-mode Quizizz is easy to use, enjoyable, fun, challenging, and very interesting. The students only show and rotate the answer, and the teacher will scan the code cards to display the real-time results. In addition, this makes students more motivated to have a test using Paper-mode Quizizz. To sum up, Paper-mode Quizizz is an effective-alternative platform to use for formative assessment in English teaching and learning.
