The industry 4.0 marks the fast-growing technology in many fields in order to achieve process efficiency in all of aspect of the industries, including education. The efficiency is derived from a big data, a real-time dataset collected from a vast amount of data from many instruments. Big data processing is used to predict market trends, discover new problem-solving and many more. Critical thinking, statistics, computing and the ability to understand how the world works are among important factors that has to be needed in big data processing. Among those abilities, critical thinking is an essential ability influencing directly the big data processing because this ability can aid students to decide the best alternative solutions in solving a problem. Nevertheless, the lack of good educational platform to host such important skills in the current Indonesian education makes it harder to cultivate good human resources that are able to comprehend big data processing. Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) is known to be the holistic educational approach that combines various disciplines into one set of educational approach to help students gain more skills and sharpen their knowledge in regards of the fast-growing industry 4.0 in Indonesia.
Critical thinking is a higher-order thinking skill which is believed to be able to enhance students" ability in facing academic as well as real life challenges and problems. Student"s thinking skill is affected by their prior knowledge and experience, which play an important part in the decisionmaking process, a crucial phase and a compound process taking a principal role in all thinking levels. The purpose of this research is to find out students" critical thinking skill in order to recognize the characteristics of students' thinking based on decision-making style. This research is a case study adopting a qualitative approach, using descriptive analysis. The data are collected using test, observation and interview. The results show that more than half students" critical thinking skill is still on the lower cognitive complexity based on the decisionmaking style.
Education helps prepare students to have various abilities and skills that can help them to face and solve real-life problems. One of the skills that every student must possess in order to become a highly qualified human resource is the ability to think critically. The results of the initial research conducted found that out of 30 students who took the critical thinking ability test, only 3 people could answer 2 questions with perfect answers from the 4 questions given. The rest, there are those who answer 1 question, there are even students. Unable to answer all the questions correctly. Students are very difficult to identify the process / mathematical concepts contained in the problem situation given, asked, and check the adequacy of the data, so that students are not able to perform the stages of analysis, evaluation, and inference correctly. This shows that students' critical thinking skills are still low. Whereas critical thinking is one of the important skills to be developed in 21st century learning. This research is a quasi-experimental or quasi-experimental research with a quantitative approach. In this study, the research sample was thirty-five students majoring in science at one Madrasah Aliyah in the city of Medan. To see whether there is an increase in logical thinking ability, a pretest-posttest one group design is used. Then the data that has been collected is analyzed using descriptive statistics. The average critical thinking ability of students increased well. The increase in the mean value of the pretest and posttest does not describe a better ability increase, the n-gain value describes the condition of increasing students' critical thinking skills after receiving TAI learning. The average value of increasing students' critical thinking skills is included in the increase in the high category. Therefore, it was found that the Accelerated Learning (AL) Learning Model can be used as an effort to improve students' mathematical critical thinking skills.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
