For‐profit businesses exist to provide financial benefits for their owners. In contrast, nonprofits exist to provide an educational, social service, or other type of humanitarian benefit for society at large. For‐profits generate income (e.g., sales revenue) from the services they provide and/or the goods that they sell, whereas nonprofits generate income primarily from donations and grants. The governmental and competitive environment influence profit making organizations, which in turn shapes business strategy and the dynamics of organizational communication.
