Currently, there are many methods of reducing the friction losses of the main components of an internal combustion piston engine. The operating conditions of internal combustion piston engines intended for the propulsion of ultralight aircraft differ significantly from those prevailing in the case of using these engines for the propulsion of vehicles. There are many studies on the influence of selected anti-wear coatings on the friction coefficients when using various lubricants, measured via tribometers. Unfortunately, the conditions obtained in the laboratory significantly differ from those prevailing in an engine operating under external conditions. The study investigated the influence of a change in the tribological parameters of TiN, TiAlN, CrN and DLC1 anti-wear coatings on the moment of resistance to the piston movement of an aircraft engine. The operating parameters of a real engine working in an aircraft were simulated. The main focus was on the coating layers of the sliding surfaces of the piston rings and the cylinder running surface. The properties of the coatings affect the correlation of the scale of the adhesion and cohesion phenomena of the oil to the opposite planes, and this determines the nature of the changes in the moment of resistance to engine motion. As it is commonly known, with an increase in the value of the maximum pressure of the working medium in the combustion chamber, the share of mixed friction in liquid friction increases, similar to the high oil temperatures occurring in aircraft engines. Therefore, there is a justified need to supplement the research in the field of analyzing the characteristics of the torque of resistance to motion for these engines, in particular in the field of the usable rotational speeds of the crankshaft. Applicable anti-wear systems based on selected coatings can significantly improve operational safety and noticeably reduce fuel consumption.
This paper describes the possibility of using a small autonomous helicopter to perform tasks using a remote sensing system. This article further shows the most effective way to properly set up autopilot and to process its validation during flight tests. The most important components of the remote sensing system are described and the possibilities of using this system to monitor gas transmission and distribution networks are presented.
The paper presents the results of a series of numerical research on the possibility of applying Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) for the ultimate strength calculations of selected parts of rotating machines. The layout and the principle of the algorithm operation were described, beginning from the general assumptions and then moving on to the detailed description of the subsequent modules. The effects of applying the algorithm were presented on the example of the compressor disc analysis. The significant benefits of its application were the reduction of optimization time by about 40% and the disc weight reduction by 0.5 kg. The accuracy of ANNs was different in each iteration of the presented algorithm. Finally, high accuracy of neural networks was achieved with the following mean values of relevant indices reached in the last iteration: RMSE = 0.5983, MAPA = 0.0733 and R 2 = 0.99895. The further perspectives of the undertaken research were defined at the end.
This work contains the results of a modern helicopter construction analysis. It includes the comparison of almost seventy rotorcraft constructions in terms of size in line with EASA requirements – large and small helicopters. The helicopters are also divided because of a mission purpose. The proposed division for large aircrafts is: transport, multipurpose, attack and for small aircrafts: observation, training, and utility. The aircraft construction features are described. Average dimension values of airframes and rotors are shown. Helicopter rotor arrangements are presented in terms of an operational purpose. Next, the rotorcraft design inputs are described. The mathematical formulas for design inputs are given. The ratios are calculated and gathered for the compared aircrafts. Correlation between the analysed parameters is presented on charts. Design inputs are also presented in the paper as a function of MTOW. The function trends are determined to provide an evaluation tool for helicopter designers. In addition, the parameters are presented as possible optimisation variables.
