A CMOS Variable Gain Amplifier is described for possible use in disk drive read channels. The 0.9 sq mm cell attains a 30 dB range of variable gain with 50 MHz bandwidth, requires a single 5V supply, and dissipates 150 mW.
A signal processor incorporates equalization, clock recovery, AGC, and peak detection for waveforms in the disk read channel, and operates up to a 40MHz clock rate. The 2pm CMOS IC uses precision analog MOS signal processing implemented with scaled-down unit cells, and dissipates 500mW from a 5V power supply.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
