This master's thesis aims to develop a-non-automated‖ interpretation of the Machado de Asis romance, Helena (1876). The objective is to formulate an interpretative analysis independent of any subsequent work, which can be said to have initiated in 1881 with the publication of Memórias Póstumas de Brás Cubas. Also, it is envisaged the presentation of a novel interpretation that rescues the expectations of the public, critics and authors contemporary to the romance. As such, the thesis demonstrates that this masterpiece flows contrary to the movement characterized by its generation. Where, defined at that time, two distinct projects within the Brazilian literature struggle for popularity: the first, represented by Helena, establishes a literature movement in accordance with popular and cosmopolitan romance produced in Europe; the second, represented by O Cabeleira, is part of a national process of identity creation driven by the literature. In addition, it is established that within Helena there is a constant tension between local and universal, which is explained by both, the incessant references to pieces authored by Manon Lescaut e Paulo e Virgínia, as well as the incorporation of examples that represent the roman-feuilleton within its narrative structure. Formally, by condensing and reworking national and international references, it is noted that the Asis´s prose criticizes some of the critical principles of the Brazilian literature, evidenced by regular questioning of literature´ models and reflections upon them.
Jogando com as máquinas: relação entre videogames violentos e cognições agressivasABSTRACT: This paper aimed verify the relationship between preference for violent content and habits related to videogames games with the tendency to aggressive cognitions. To participate in the study, it was necessary that the participants had account on the Facebook social network. Not only players were able to participate, provided they were of legal age. The cognitions survey instrument was created in the online application Google Docs. In the instrument, participants completed a few submitted words and answered questions about gambling habits and how these are part of your routine, your thoughts and your social interactions. To assess aggressive cognitions, they were submitted 12 sets of letters in which each exhibited a sequence with a gap to be completed, e.g. S_CO fitting responses SACO, SUCO, SOCO or SECO. They were checked also habits of play and sociodemographic characteristics of the participants. From the results obtained, it could be concluded that there was no significance in the relationship between preference for violent content of games and aggressive cognitions.
Segundo Silviano Santiago, a obra romanesca de Machado de Assis, em sua série cronológica, possui “certas estruturas primárias e primeiras [que] se desarticulam e se rearticulam sob a forma de estruturas diferentes, mais complexas e sofisticadas”. O estudo do ciúme enquanto expressão patriarcal na cultura brasileira é uma dessas estruturas que o crítico estudou para compreender o romance machadiano. O presente artigo busca levar adiante as formulações de Santiago, inserindo no debate questões como exílio, ciúme e espaço social como parte do repertório estrutural do romance machadiano. Para tanto, analisa episódios em que esses temas estão presentes em Helena (1876), A mão e a luva (1874) e, sobretudo, Dom Casmurro (1899). Palavras-chave: Machado de Assis. Romance Brasileiro. Este ensaio desenvolve uma leitura de dois modelos literários contidos no romance Helena (1876), de Machado de Assis. Considera-se o horizonte de expectativas do leitor de romances no Brasil do século XIX e o modo pelo qual Machado de Assis influencia no debate sobre a chamada literatura da “cor local”, tema tratado por ele no ensaio “Notícia da atual literatura brasileira. Instinto de nacionalidade”, de 1873, e tornado matéria estruturante de seus romances. Veremos que há dentro do espaço ficcional de Helena uma tensão entre local e universal, representada tanto pela citação direta de romances como Manon Lescaut e Paulo e Virgínia, como pela incorporação em seu tecido narrativo dos arquétipos existentes nos romances-folhetim. Ao parodiar, “traduzir” e retrabalhar referências literárias tanto nacionais como estrangeiras a prosa machadiana desse período critica alguns princípios norteadores da produção literária brasileira, questionando modelos de literatura e refletindo sobre eles.
