Disposable diaper waste is a crucial environmental problem today. Population growth is one of the triggers for increasing this type of waste. To overcome this, various studies on recycling diaper waste are a top priority. Some researchers recycle diaper waste as building components, especially concrete. The results of those studies have a positive impact on waste recycling innovation. In this paper, we will try to approach the formula for calculating the recycling of diapers as concrete. In addition, a simple simulation is used to determine the capacity of diaper waste that can be recycled as building material. The study revealed that parameters to calculate waste capacity for disposable diapers is age population of 0-4 years, frequency of changing diaper and mass of diaper. Thus, parameters to be considered for replacement of concrete component by waste materials, especially disposable diapers is density of materials, mass of materials and percentage of replacement Based on the calculation simulation results, the use of diaper waste as a concrete material for road pavement is better to reduce waste production capacity than for building components.
Urbanization is an undeniable phenomenon that happens globally, including in Indonesia. Indonesian cities are growing, causing urban sprawl and transformation of rural areas into urban areas. In between the urban and rural there is peri-urban area that has unique mixed characteristics of both. Areas with such characteristics can be found easily in the outskirts of Bandung city. The growth of peri-urban areas in Bandung occurs simultaneously with the growing tourism industries. This phenomenon caused a spatial transformation especially to the existing houses, which gives impacts to the livability of the area. This article would focus upon how housing transformation in peri-urban areas can affect the livability of the area by using the North Bandung peri-urban area as a case study. The result shows that the spatial transformation that happens in peri-urban areas gives positive impacts to social, economy, and spatial aspects, but unfortunately not the environmental aspects.
As many of the developing megacities, Bangkok has also implemented a TOD system to tackle the increase of traffic congestion and the availability of transportation issues. However, the TOD projects in Bangkok are not supported by an appropriate provision in affordable housing. In recent years, as the improved accessibility and transit proximity are often capitalized into housing and land prices, it resulted in the low-income population displacement, a condition that refers to the term transit-induced gentrification. This paper uses Bangkok, Thailand, as a case study to review the impact of TOD especially in the displacement of populations. The review concludes that the gentrification in Bangkok is initiated by the increase of the value and rent price of the property due to the presence of the transit station. The case in Bangkok is one of the precedents that have a combination of characteristics from the early period and the latest period definition of gentrification. It has the characteristics that the case is concentrated in the city center and the subject is working class and wealthy residents, which from the early definition. While it still represents the characteristics of the latest definition, such as indirect and direct displacement that appear at the same time.
Kata kunci: Rumah Belajar Mentari, Pendidikan Informal, Kampung Sekepicung, Ruang Publik, Gedung Serba Guna ABSTRACT The uneven level of public education literacy in several regions in Indonesia encourages some community members to facilitate informal teaching and learning activities, by creating integrated learning places or in the form of tutoring. One of them is Rumah Belajar Mentari which was initiated by one of the residents of Kampung Sekepicung, Desa Ciburial, Kec. Cimenyan, Kab. Bandung. The informal teaching and learning place that was established in 2007 has helped students around the village to get an education in the form of tutoring with voluntary teaching staff. Rumah Belajar Mentari which occupies an area of 25 m2, is a living room for one of the residents, which is converted into a mini-hall. The absence of public space in the village makes Rumah Belajar Mentari not only an informal learning place but as a gathering place for residents such as Karang Taruna meetings, PKK meetings, and others. The more urgent the need for public space, encouraging the founders of the Rumah Belajar Mentari to grant their inheritance land to be built into a multi-purpose building that could become a place for teaching and learning as well as the activities of residents around the village. This community service activity helps the community to design the building image of Rumah Belajar Mentari which will be used for the preparation of the sponsorship proposal for development funds. Key words: Mentari Learning House, Informal Education, Kampung Sekepicung, Public Space, Multi-Purpose Building
