The purpose of this study is to explore the research base of STEM education in Malaysia through an analysis review of articles for a 14-year period, from 1999 to 2013. The research base review focuses on identifying four characteristics of STEM education: a) temporal distribution, b) the research areas involved in each discipline, c) the types of participants, and d) the methodological design employed. Published journals from webbased service providers were selected according to the original author's discussion of STEM education in the articles. The findings summarize the core consistencies of STEM education literature across the STEM disciplines throughout the years by identifying the STEM-related content addressed by professionals in their respective fields.
Kemahiran ‘employability’ merupakan kemahiran yang sangat dipentingkan oleh majikan ke atas graduan dalam bidang teknikal untuk mendapat pekerjaan. Namun begitu tidak semua lulusan teknikal mempunyai kemahiran ‘employability’ yang diharapkan oleh majikan. Kertas kerja ini merupakan satu kertas konsep yang menggariskan aspek–aspek penting kemahiran ‘employability’ dan peranan serta tanggungjawab institusi pendidikan teknikal dalam memupuk kemahiran ‘employability’ terhadap individu. Hasil dari kajian literatur, penyelidik telah dapat membongkar beberapa isu berkaitan kemahiran ‘employability’ lulusan teknikal dan kemahiran ‘employability’ yang diperlukan oleh majikan. Satu kerangka konseptual telah dapat dihasilkan di mana ianya memperlihatkan perhubungan dan jaringan antara institusi pendidikan teknikal, industri dan aspek kemahiran ‘employability’ yang dikehendaki oleh majikan masa kini. Kerangka konseptual yang dibangunkan ini merupakan satu panduan kepada institusi pendidikan dan tenaga pengajar dalam proses pemupukan kemahiran ‘employability’. Hasil kupasan dari literatur, penyelidik juga telah dapat menggariskan beberapa strategi dan kaedah pendekatan pemupukan kemahiran ‘employability’ di dalam bilik kuliah atau kelas. Keseluruhan kajian memperlihatkan bahawa institusi pendidikan perlu mengambil inisiatif dalam memupuk kemahiran ‘employability’ dalam kalangan pelajar, kerana kemahiran ‘employability’ kini merupakan keutamaan kepada industri selain daripada kemahiran teknikal. But not all technical graduates acquired the employability skill which meet the employers need. This paper is a concept paper which outlines the important aspects of employability skills, the roles and responsibility of technical institution to inculcate employability skills of an individual. Through this concept paper, some important employability skills aspects and method one suggest to inculcate the employability aspects. The literature review, reveals issues regarding employability skills amongst technical students and also the employability skills that employers require. A conceptual framework has been developed as a guideline for the tehnical institution and instructors, showing the interrelationship and networking between technical institute and industry in the process of inculcating the employability skills. Starategies and method of inculcating employability skill in the classroom has also been drawn out from this study. Overall study shows that technical institution must initiates in inculcating the employability skills of their students because employability skills has now become one of the most important skills besides technical skills in the industrial sector. This study was undertaken to explore the critical factors influencing the self-concept of community college graduates in the development of their careers. Individuals with a positive self-concept are often associated with a good career choices and a well-panned career development path. Hence community college students should be girded with a positive self-concept to ensure success in their future careers. This qualitative research using multiple case study methods involved 15 community college graduates who have been relatively successful in their respective careers and were able to generate high incomes. Further data obtained were analysed using NVivo 8.0 to determine the relevant themes that emerged. The study observed the presence of five critical internal factors influencing self-concept: congruence, boldness in facing a challenge, vision, skills and experience.
Kajian ini bertujuan untuk meminjam persekitaran pengajaran-pembelajaran sains di Sekolah Bestari dalam menyediakan peluang pemupukan kemahiran proses sains (KPS) di kalangan pelajar. Kajian ini merupakan kajian kes jenis kualitatif. Seramai 24 pelajar dan 2 orang guru dipilih menjadi peserta kajian dari dua buah Sekolah Bestari. Hasil analisis dokumen menunjukkan bahawa kurikulum memainkan peranan penting dalam menentukan perancangan pemupukan kemahiran proses sains. Kajian ini mendapati peluang pemupukan kemahiran proses sains wujud dalam proses pengajaran-pembelajaran sains di Sekolah Bestari. Peluang pemupukan ini didapati daripada kaedah pengajaran dan bahan pengajaran-pembelajaran yang digunakan. Kaedah perbincangan memupuk banyak jenis kemahiran proses sains berbanding kaedah pengajaran yang lain. Kemahiran proses sains yang paling kerap dipupuk melalui kaedah perbincangan adalah kemahiran berkomunikasi. Bahan pengajaran-pembelajaran yang memupuk paling banyak jenis kemahiran proses sains ialah penggunaan pengurusan grafik. Kajian ini juga mencadangkan model pemupukan kemahiran proses sains. Kata kunci: Kemahiran projek sains, Sekolah Bestari, pemupukan, pengajaran-pembelajaran This study aims at exploring science teaching-learning environment of smart schools in providing opportunities to incalculate science process skills amongst students. This is a case study using a qualitative method. 24 students and 2 teachers from two smart schools were chosen as the participants. Document analysis indicates that the curriculum plays a major role in determining the planning of incalculating science process skills. This study shows that opportunities to incalculate science process skills exist in the teaching-learning process of science in smart schools, through the use of teaching methods and teaching aids. The discussion method incalculates more science process skills compared to other methods of teaching. This science process skills that is most incalculated through the discussions methods is the communication skill. Graphic organizer used as a teaching aid was found to incalculate and the most variety of science process skills. This study also suggests a model for the incalculation of science process skills.
