The results of the 2018 PISA show that students’ mathematical literacy skills in Indonesia are quite low. This is because students are rarely given assignments in the form of mathematical literacy questions during learning, but students are only used to getting explanations and memorizing formulas. Another cause is that today’s teaching materials tend to go directly to abstract mathematics by starting with the presentation of concepts and formulas and rarely contain literacy questions. This research aims to develop an e-worksheet based on the Realistic Mathematics Education Approach to support the valid and practical literacy skills of junior high school students. The development carried out refers to the Formative Evaluation type by Tessmer, which consists of the preliminary and prototyping stages (expert review, one-to-one, and small group). The research subjects were 8th graders in SMP Negeri 1 Talang Kelapa with 3 students (high, moderate, and low level) for the one-to-one phase and 6 students (high, moderate, and low level) for the small group phase. Questionnaires and interviews were used to collect data regarding the validity and practicality of the e-worksheet. The results showed that the e-worksheet based on a realistic mathematics education approach to support the mathematical literacy skills of junior high school students is valid, based on the expert review and one-to-one phases, and practical, based on the small group stage. Furthermore, this developed-e-worksheet can be used by teachers or other researchers in the field test phase to see the potential effects given.
This research is a descriptive study that aims to identify student’s mathematical thinking in aspect reasoning on grade XI in topic sequences and series through the inquiry learning model. The test is consists of one problem. The subject for this research were 3 students of XI IPA 1 class at SMA Negeri 1 Indralaya Selatan. The learning process adjusted with the inquiry phases. The data collection techniques used in this research are written tests and interviews. The result of this study indicates that subject 1 (S1) appears inductive reasoning only on the perception of generality and expression of generality in which logical analysis is gathering facts, assessing or proposing assumptions, and setting conclusions. Subject 2 (S2) appears all indicators of inductive reasoning and indicators of logical analysis, and subject 3 (S3) appears all indicators of inductive reasoning while indicators of logical analysis are submitting assumptions, assessing or testing assumptions, and setting conclusions.
This study aims to describe number patterns problems that are designed to measure the abstraction ability of junior high school students. This study was design research which consists: preliminary design, focus group discussion, trial, interview, and retrospective analysis. The instruments used in this study were test and interview to measure abstraction ability that has 5 indicators, which are: specialization, observation of pattern, generalization, conjecturing and testing conjecture. The subjects of this study were 3 students in grade 8 and the data analysis used in this study was qualitative. As a result of this study, the problem can be used to measure students’ abstraction ability.
This research aims to determine the 7 th grade-students skills in solving the inverse proportion visual-formed problem through mathematical modeling learning. This research type was descriptive research using a qualitative approach. The subjects of this research were 19 students of the 7 th grade-student of SMP Negeri 6 Indralaya Utara. We carried out the data collection techniques through the post-test and interviews. Based on the findings, here were found that the mathematical modeling problem in terms of visual provided a significant contribution to the student skills in solving the inverse proportion visual-formed problem. The details of the occurrence percentage of indicators were as follows: the identifying problem was 42,98%, the defining variable was 28,07%, formulating a mathematical model was 45,61%, completing the mathematics model was 52,63%, and applying the model was 50,00%.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
