Background: Sarcopenia is a decrease in muscle mass and strength that mostly happens in the elderly. Sarcopenia is a problem that is often found in the elderly who are at risk of disability, hospitalization and death. This data on muscle mass and strength with physical performance is expected to support the theory of sarcopenia and as a reference in promoting and preventing sarcopenia in elderly.Aims: To analyze the association between muscle mass and strength (handgrip strength) with physical performance assessed using Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) in an elderly community.Methods: This study was a cross-sectional observational analytic study involving 203 sample of elderly (age >60 years old). The subjects were categorized as the strong and weak muscle mass and muscle strength, also the high, moderate and low physical performance. We used Bioimpedance Analysis (BIA) and hand dynamometer to measure muscle mass and muscle strength (handgrip strength). SPPB was used to assess physical performance.The association between muscle mass and strength with physical performance was displayed in bivariate analysis with chi square.Result: Of all 203 subjects, 57 were males and 146 were females. Chi square test showed association between muscle strength (handgrip strength) with physical performance (SPPB) (p=0.001), with a weak correlation (r=0.26) and no association between muscle mass and physical performance (SPPB) (p=0.517).Conclusion: There is a positive association between muscle strength with physical performance, with a weak correlation and no association between muscle mass and physical performance in the elderly community in Surabaya.

Background: Sensorimotor dysfunction such as muscle weakness, impaired sensation, changes in muscle tone, reduced movement control are common in stroke patients. Locomotion function requires continuous afferent sensory input. Impairment of sensory function can hinder the ability to recruit muscles during walking. Patients generally walk slowly, cadence, step and stride length are shorter and the double phase of support increases. Goal: Analyzing the correlation between the propioceptive function of the knee joint and walking speed in post-stroke patients, who are treated at the PMR Outpatient Clinic of Dr. Soetomo General Academic Hospital Surabaya. Methode: An observational analytic cross sectional study, nine subjects measured walking speed (10MWT), joint position sense (JPS) and threshold to detetction of passive motion (TTDPM) of the knee joint, in the period March -November 2020.. Results: There is a moderate correlation between 10MWT and JPS 15 0 on the non-paretic side (r 0.676; p=0.045) and JPS 30 0 on the paretic side (r 0.668; p=0.049). And there is a strong correlation between 10MWT and JPS 60 0 on the paretic side (r 0.824; p=0.006). However, there is no significant correlation between 10MWT and TTDPM. Conclusion:There is correlation between the propioceptive function of the knee joint and the walking speed of post-stroke patients. The smaller the percentage of joint position error, the stronger the correlation with walking speed.
Falling is a major health problem and is also a major cause of morbidity and mortality in the elderly. The more serious consequences of falling on the elderly are the increased risk of injury and fear of falling. Activities-Specific Balance Confidence (ABC) scale is one of the assessment instruments for fear of falling. This instrument is used to assess balance confidence in various ambulation activities. The purpose of this study was to carry out the process of adaptation of the cross cultural ABC English questionnaire to ABC Indonesian. This study was a cross sectional study with participants of five elderly members of the Posyandu Lansia who were in accordance with the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The output is the correlation between the score of ABC English with ABC Indonesian and the score of ABC Indonesian with ABC English Back Translation which are tested at different times. All the question score in the ABC English questionnaire correlated with ABC Indonesian, as well as the Indonesian Language ABC correlated with ABC English back translation, have a significant correlation (r> 0.3). The conclusion of this study is that the ABC English has a close meaning with the ABC Indonesian and the ABC Indonesian has a close meaning with the ABC English back translation. The validity and reliability of the Indonesian version of ABC questionnaire is needed to obtain a valid and reliable questionnaire.
