An optical wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) subscriber network architecture and an economical introduction scenario for B-ISDN services are proposed. B-ISDN services are integrated into an optical WDM subscriber network by using a different wavelength for each service. Key technologies for each of the introduction scenario's five stages are described, and some preliminary results obtained with them are presented. These technologies are (1) optical WDM subscriber lines, (2) a multichip space-division switching module, (3) time-and wavelength-division optical distribution, (4) a highthroughput ATM switching module, and (5) a time-division 52-Mb/s switching module with a throughput of 9.6 Gb/s.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
