Scientific literature contains many references to the influ ence of ingested mineral oil upon the absorption of certain of the vitamins. As early as 1927, Dutcher et al. showed that a mixture of mineral oil with butterfat was ineffective in curing vitamin A-deficient rats, and additional work by this group (Dutcher et al., '33, '34) attributed this result to the solvent action of mineral oil on carotene. This effect of mineral oil on carotene utilization has been confirmed with both rats and man by a number of other workers (
