Abstract:We study rigidly rotating strings in the near horizon geometry of a stack of Neveu-Schwarz (NS) 5-branes. We solve the Nambu-Goto action of the fundamental string in the presence of a NS-NS two form (B µν ) and find out limiting cases corresponding to magnon and spike like solutions.
The AdS 3 × S 3 string sigma model supported both by NS-NS and R-R fluxes has become a well known integrable model, however a putative dual field theory description remains incomplete. We study the anomalous dimensions of twist operators in this theory via semiclassical string methods. We describe the construction of a multi-cusp closed string in conformal gauge moving in AdS 3 with fluxes, which supposedly is dual to a general higher twist operator. After analyzing the string profiles and conserved charges for the string, we find the exact dispersion relation between the charges in the 'long' string limit. This dispersion relation in leading order turns out to be similar to the case of pure RR flux, with the coupling being scaled by a factor that depends on the amount of NS-NS flux turned on. We also analyse the case of pure NS flux, where the dispersion relation simplifies considerably. Furthermore, we discuss the implications of these results at length.
We study rigidly rotating strings in the near horizon geometry of the 1+1 dimensional intersection of two orthogonal stacks of NS5-branes, the so called I-brane background. We solve the equations of motion of the fundamental string action in the presence of two form NS-NS fluxes that the I-brane background supports and write down general form of conserved quantities. We further find out two limiting cases corresponding to giant magnon and single spike like strings in various parameter space of solutions.
We study various rotating and oscillating D-string configurations in some general backgrounds with fluxes. In particular, we look for solutions to the equations of motion of various rigidly rotating D-strings in AdS 3 background with mixed flux, and in the intersecting D-brane geometries. We find out relations among various conserved charges corresponding to the breathing and rotating D-string configurations.
We study semiclassical strings in the near horizon geometry of certain curved branes. We investigate the rigidly rotating strings in the near horizon geometry of NS5-branes wrapped on AdS 3 × S 3 and in the presence of background NS-NS flux. We study several string solutions corresponding to giant magnon, single spike and more general folded strings for the fundamental string in this background. We comment that in the S-dual background the situation changes drastically.
