Background: Research shows that transcranial direct current stimulation is effective in reducing depression and anxiety. Objectives: This research is aimed at reducing depression and anxiety in methadone users with transcranial direct current stimulation. Methods: This study is a randomized clinical trial with a pretest-posttest. The sample of this study was 60 methadone users who had severe depression and anxiety. Participants were allocated to two experimental (n = 30) and control groups (n = 30). The two regions, F3 (cathode) and F4 (anode) were stimulated with a current of 2 mA for 20 minutes in 10 sessions. Participants were assessed before and after stimulation with Beck’s depression inventory and Berger’s anxiety test. Results: Data analysis showed that tDCS reduced the symptoms of depression and anxiety in methadone users (P < 0.01). Conclusions: It seems that the method of tDCS can reduce the severity of symptoms of depression and anxiety. Therefore, it can be claimed that this intervention can be considered by experts as a complementary intervention along with other psychological and pharmacological treatments.
health psychology report • volume 8(1), original article background Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is prevalent in children, adolescents and adults. It can occur alone or in comorbidity with other disorders. A broad range of psychotherapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR) have been developed for the treatment of PTSD. The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of eye movement desensitization reprocessing and cognitive behavioral therapy in reducing post-traumatic stress disorder. participants and procedure The population of this investigation was composed of 450 veterans of holy war who referred to military health services. The study sample contained 225 veterans who were randomly selected and asked to complete the Mississippi Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Questionnaire. From 80 respondents who achieved above the minimum score in the questionnaire, 40 persons were chosen randomly and assigned to two experimental groups and one control group. Subjects in the experimental group received eight sessions of CBT training and 8 sessions of EMDR therapy. Post tests were taken from all participants after therapy sessions. Data were analyzed using ANCOVA in SPSS version 25. results Our findings indicated a significant difference between EMDR and CBT groups in term of average PTSD. We also found a significant difference in terms of average PTSD between the control group and CBT as well as EMDR groups. conclusions The results of the present study indicated that the eye movement desensitization reprocessing method and cognitive behavioral therapy are effective in reducing post-traumatic stress disorder. We also found that EMDR is more effective than CBT.
Background: This research is aimed at Effectiveness of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation on Depression and Anxiety in Methadone Consumers Methods: The research performed about the effect of electric TDCS on depression and anxiety caused by methadone consumption has not been paid attention. In this research, 40 people were studied as a group. These people took a test before and after the eight-day period of simulation. After the primary test, people received device simulation for 8 consecutive days on a specific time. Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Wilcoxon tests were used for analyzing the data. Results:The results show that with the score of 1.69 for the first variable, the patients’ anxiety level is much lower at the time of electric simulation. Also, regarding the score of 1.62 in the second hypothesis, it can be stated that depression level was much lower at the time of performing the simulation. Conclusions: Regarding the fact that drug consumption is one of the most important health problems in the society, performing such projects will be useful. It needs to be mentioned that even according to the findings of this research, people who are intended to quit their addiction should be under treatment of addiction treatment and consultation centers to control their depression and anxiety in order to achieve the desired results.
