Background & Aims of the Study: Cerebral Palsy (CP) is the most common chronic motor disability in children. CP can cause depression and anxiety in the mothers of affected children. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) on anxiety and depression in the mothers of children with CP. Materials and Methods: This was an experimental study with a pre-test, post-test and follow-up and a control group design. The study sample consisted of 40 mothers of children with CP who were selected by convenience sampling method. We randomly divided the study participants into experimental and control groups (n=20/group). The research instruments included the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). The experimental group underwent eight 60-minute sessions weekly sessions of CFT. The follow-up step was performed after 45 days. The obtained data were analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics, such as mean, standard deviation, Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA), and Multivariate Analysis of Covariance (MANCOVA). Data analysis was performed using SPSS v. 24. Results: The Mean±SD pre-test and post-test scores of anxiety and depression were measured as 28.80±9.24) and 16.25±7.40 in the experimental group and 38.80±10.27 and 28.00±5.01, respectively in the control group. The obtained results suggested that CFT effectively reduced anxiety and depression in the explored mothers of children with CP (P<0.01). Conclusion: According to the present study results, CFT can be used to reduce anxiety and depression in the mothers of children with CP and accordingly improve their quality of life.
Objective: This research aimed to investigate the relationship of family affective climate, self-effectiveness, and personal-social adjustment variables with academic achievement of university students in Islamic Azad University, Ahvaz branch, Ahvaz, Iran.
Methods:The research sample included 300 individuals (150 females and 150 males) who were selected through random stratified sampling method. California personal-social adjustment, Scherer and Adams self-effectiveness, and family's affective climate questionnaires were administered to collect the data. Correlation coefficient and linear regression analysis were used for analyzing the data.
Results:The results of the data analysis indicated that there is a significant relationship between variables of family's affective climate, personal and social adjustment, and self-effectiveness with academic achievement of students (P<0.001). Furthermore, the results of linear regression analysis indicated that the variables of self-effectiveness, personal and social adjustment, and family's affective climate were significant predictors of academic achievement.Conclusion: Improving student's self-effectiveness, personal-social adjustment, and family's affective climate may have positive influences on their academic achievement.
Estudio de la efectividad del entrenamiento con ejercicios cerebrales y la psicoterapia dinámica intensiva a corto plazo (ISDTP) sobre la autoconciencia emocional de las madres con niños con retraso mental en Ahvaz
<p class="apa">This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the group play therapy on the insecure attachment and social skills of orphans in Ahvaz city. Statistical population included all orphans in Ahvaz city, of whom 30 students were selected whose scores in insecure attachment and in social skills were one standard deviation higher and one standard deviation lower than the mean, respectively and they were randomly divided into two treatment (15 persons) and control (15 persons) groups. The research tools included Randolph Attachment Disorder Questionnaire (2000) (RADQ) and Social Skills Rating System (SSRS) questionnaire (Gresham and Elliot, 1990). This is an experimental study with pretest, posttest, and follow-up by the control group. Firstly, pretest was implemented for both groups, and then experimental intervention (play therapy) was carried out for the treatment group during 10 sessions. After the therapeutic program, the posttest and two months later follow-up were implemented. The results obtained using the statistical method of multivariate covariance analysis showed that group play therapy reduces the insecure attachment and increases the social skills at P < 0.001 during the stages of posttest and follow-up in the treatment group compared to the control group. Results also indicated that there is a significant difference between posttest and follow-up of the treatment and control group in terms of the components of social skills (collaboration, assertiveness, and self-control).</p>
