It is interesting to conduct a comparative study of Javanese (Indonesia) and Japanese (Japan) culture especially in terms of traditional clothing of Javanese Batik and Japanese Kimono to formulate how a collaborative idea can be developed to foster a global creative clothing industry. This article aims at: (1) exploring a comparative study of Batik and Kimono by understanding their philosophical importance as cultural products; and (2) formulating a collaborative clothing of Batik-Kimono as a creative industry of global product to in the international forum today. The paper is based on a qualitative research employing purposive sampling and data triangulation technique by considering the socio-cultural context to interpret the qualitative importance of Batik-Kimono. The sources of data are collected from the informants -makers and designers, documents and social occurrences related to the creation of the cultural products. The findings show that both batik and kimono motifs have philosophical meaning representing their cultural identity for they have been rooted in each society of origin which own valuable virtue and excellence. Batik-Kimono, alternatively called as Kimba in this paper, is an asset that has a multi-purpose, not only in the context of preserving culture, but also in the field of creative industry. The combined motifs and designs of Kimba, therefore, reflect on the philosophical value by consistently paying attention to the aesthetics rooted in their cultures of origin to strongly appear as a new blended fashion in both countries and if not in the international forum. The model of development in this paper is presented as a four-season Kimba fashion.
The martial art or pencak silat is a combating method that philosophically teaches both spiritual and physical education helping the enthusiasts to live with the noble moral values in their society. The material object of this study is pencak silat and the formal object is the philosophy of arts or aesthetics of the pencak silat. This study aims to examine (1) norms or manners of pencak silat, (2) pencak silat style, (3) pencak silat categories and pencak silat equipments. This research employs factual-historical method by means of description, analysis, and synthesis. The results are (1) norms of pencak silat are conceptually found in the attitude of performance, steps (gerak langkah), attack (serangan), and defense (belaan), (2) martial arts style consists of the mental-spiritual aspects, martial arts, arts, and sport, (3) arts in martial arts are subdivided into wiraga, wirama, and wirasa, and the martial arts equipments include specific use of costumes, weapons, and traditional music acompaniments. Objek material dari penelitian ini adalah pencak silat dan objek formal adalah filsafat seni atau estetika dari pencak silat tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji (1) norma atau perilaku pencak silat, (2) gaya pencak silat, (3) kategori pencak silat dan peralatannya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode faktual-historis melalui deskripsi, analisis, dan sintesis. Hasilnya adalah (1) norma pencak silat yang secara konseptual ditemukan dalam sikap kinerja, gerak langkah, serangan, dan pertahanan (belaan), (2) gaya seni bela diri (aliran gaya) yang terdiri dari aspek mental-spiritual, bela diri, seni, dan olahraga, (3) seni dalam seni bela diri dibagi menjadi wiraga, wirama, dan wirasa serta peralatan seni bela diri termasuk penggunaan kostum, senjata khusus, dan pengiring musik tradisional.Kata kunci: gaya seni bela diri, pencak silat, nilai filosofis, wiraga-wirama-wirasa
This article aims to describe the structure contained in Sunan Muria Folk Literature and describe the character values in Sunan Muria Folk Literature. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The type of plot used in Sunan Muria Folk Literature in Kudus Regency is a straight or advanced plot. The dominant figure in the Sunan Muria Folk Literature in Kudus Regency is a good human character. More background is used in this folk literature. Sunan Muria Folk Literature in Kudus Regency contains varied suggestions. The character values in this folk literature include religious values, honesty, tolerance, discipline, hard work, independence, democratization, friendship/ communicative, peace, social life, and the value of responsibility. Abstrak: Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan struktur yang terkandung dalam Sastra Rakyat Sunan Muria dan menguraikan nilai-nilai karakter dalam Sastra Rakyat Sunan Muria. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Jenis plot yang digunakan dalam Sastra Rakyat Sunan Muria di Kabupaten Kudus adalah plot lurus atau maju. Tokoh dominan dalam Sastra Rakyat Sunan Muria di Kabupaten Kudus adalah karakter manusia yang baik. Latar belakang tempat lebih banyak digunakan dalam literatur rakyat ini. Sastra Rakyat Sunan Muria di Kabupaten Kudus berisi saran variatif. Nilai-nilai karakter yang dalam literatur rakyat ini antara lain nilai religi, kejujuran, toleransi, disiplin, kerja keras, kemandirian, demokratisasi, persahabatan/komunikatif, damai, kehidupan sosial, dan nilai tanggung jawab.
Abstract. This study aims to reveal various phenomena of the existence of libraries in coastal areas, especially to pay a particular attention to the relation power between various interests of the library, especially the managers and the community as the users and to explore how both parties understand and imagine the idea of library through the developing the library as a center of learning and skill development. The design of the research is explorative qualitative. Applying case study approach, the location of this research is in a coastal area, in the floating library of Tambak Lorok coastal, Semarang. Data are collected through observation and indepth interviews with several parties involved. To examine the validity of data, this study applies a triangulation technique of sources focusing on key informants living in the community. The result of this research shows that the existence of library in the coastal area is more than the common belief to the function of library. Although finding shows that the government's attitude to support the development of the library has been as expected through producing some regulations, the response of the community to the development of the library is far beyond the expectation. Some drawbacks found are in the handling of library management which is still lack of implementation from the initial planning and the absence of integrated coastal resources management resulted from low understanding and mastery of policy makers and implementers of the national library program. However, the community has developed a community-based management which is an approach that has been widely used in various regions as an effort to empower themselves through utilizing any existed facilities, in this case is the library. Community has successfully produced an initiative of developing integrated coastal resource management programs which are still hard to find in Indonesia, especially those involving library institutions.
