Olympia Plaza is one of the historic buildings located in the Central Market area of Medan City, where this area is a vital trading area because it is not far from the city center (<1 km). Olympia Plaza itself was known as the most complete mall of its time (1980), so it is only natural that this place is crowded with visitors and is a favorite mall for all people. This of course also makes Olympia have a big impact and influence on the Central Market area. However, Olympia's glory days are slowly fading after a decade or so due to the shopping center located right next to it as well as the discontinuation of self-service operations and the multiple occurrences of fires within the plaza. As a result of the degradation of Olympia Plaza, the Central Market Area experienced 'paralysis' where this area still exists but is felt differently due to reduced movement in the area. Therefore, this study aims to revive and preserve historical buildings through the concept of adaptive reuse. The method used in this project is using the heritage future method and the contextual method as a basic design guideline. The condition of the existing buildings that need to be repaired and maintained is also analyzed to obtain a design synthesis that will become part of the concept and strategy for implementing adaptive reuse in the Olympia Plaza Medan building. In conclusion, this research is expected to provide an overview to the public about the importance of efforts to maintain and preserve historic buildings as the identity of a city, where one example is the Olympia Plaza Medan building.
