The study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Punjab Education and English Language Initiative (PEELI) interventions (2018-19) on professional skills of primary school teachers in Punjab using Stufflebeam’s CIPP evaluation model (1983). PEELI is a collaborative project between the Government of the Punjab and British Council being implemented through Quaid-e-Azam Academy for Educational Development Punjab, Pakistan. In this qualitative research, data has been obtained through British Council’s Annual Reports, quarterly reports of third party, semi-structured interviews with four stakeholders, twelve trainers and thirty six primary school teachers in twelve districts of Punjab. The findings suggest that PEELI interventions have created positive impact on classroom delivery for making it child-centric. The study recommends the following strategies to achieve positive outcomes: needs analysis of primary teachers in the beginning of the project, equal opportunity of training to young and senior primary teachers, continuous professional development of teachers and developing follow up mechanism.
Recently, the concept of Critical thinking got much significance in the teaching and learning process. Thinking creatively and critically in the English language beckons our representation in different domains of development as well. The present study is aimed to investigate the on-going teaching-learning process of English Language Teaching at University Level in South Punjab from the perspective of critical thinking. The theoretical insights have been taken from Freire’s Banking concept of education in his seminal work, Pedagogy of the Oppressed (2018). The findings of the study reveal that our ELT classrooms are lacking the creativity and critical thinking at large. Further in our classrooms, the Banking Model of teaching is being practiced where a student remains passive and the teacher is considered as the ultimate source of knowledge. It points out that our teaching and learning process is moving on some faulty lines which need revisions and amendments. It is suggested that the Problem Posing Model of teaching and learning may be adopted in our ELT Classrooms so that our graduates at the university level may think critically and independently.
Every aspect of life has undergone innovation in recent years. Information Technology has revolutionized the concept of teaching and learning. Both educators and students are now utilizing contemporary resources for learning and teaching. One of the primary sources of contemporary educational resources is educational videos posted on various channels on YouTube. This study intends to investigate the opinions voiced in YouTube comments for educational videos with the help of Sentiment Analysis. In this research, three techniques namely SentiStrength, TextBlob, and Naive Bayes Classifier were utilized to analyze the sentiments. According to the results, the majority of the remarks made about the videos have positive sentiments that concluded that students are satisfied with YouTube educational videos and consider YouTube as a beneficial learning tool.
