Kata kunci: proses menjadi, hasrat, Tarian Setan, Siddharta Abstract THE PROCESS OF BEING IN SADDAM HUSSEIN'S TARIAN SETAN AND HERMAN HESSE'S SIDDHARTAThis paper is aimed to explain the philosophical way of thinking in the novels Tarian Setan and Siddharta (2007). The collection of way of thinking built is the character's desire as a human representation so that all arguments built are rooted in the background of desire emergence, desire process, and desire result. Based on the philosophical way of thinking, it can be concluded that Hasqil and Siddharta have a desire of being for the influence of imitation, mimetic. In the process of being caused by the mimetic, it can be identified that Hasqil has a more physical desire, aggressive, whereas Siddharta has a psychological desire, receptive. As a subject having a desire of being, Hasqil and Siddharta can be regarded as victims since both have never been free in deciding their own desire. Individuals are their environment's victims. The irony of human entrapment towards libidinal desire has been demonstrated by the two characters. Hasqil has been trapped in libidinal desire that he becomes a failed person, whereas Siddharta has intentionally trapped himself for the process of consciousness of being because of a principle that life is action. The desire of death has always become a part of the process of being for every individual. Death is an escape from unhappiness and a hope to get a hold of happiness all together.
