Haliplidae, Noteridae, Dytiscidae (Coleoptera) of Gabon (9th part). Plateaux Batéké National Park (missions 2010 and2012).<br />This work concerns the Coleoptera Hydradephaga collected in three localities of Plateaux Batéké National Park (Republic of Gabon) and in two localities external to the Park in two missions (2010 and 2012), in which altogether 82 species are listed (13 Noteridae and 69 Dytiscidae); considering also the species collected in previous missions (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008) in all 18 visited localities altogether 155 species are listed (1 Haliplidae, 17 Noteridae and 137 Dytiscidae). The Authors describe three new species: <em>Bidessus</em> <em>batekensis</em> (group <em>sharpi</em>, subgroup <em>ovoideus</em>) near <em>B. toumodiensis</em> Guignot, 1939, distinguishable by dark brown elytra without net testaceous longitudinal markings and by penis; <em>Copelatus</em> <em>tondangoyei</em> (group <em>erichsoni</em>, subgroup <em>atrosulcatus</em>) distinguishable from close species by penis; <em>Copelatus fizpaci</em> (group <em>longicornis</em>, subgroup <em>guerini</em>) closed to <em>C. ateles</em> Guignot, 1955, distinguishable by bigger size and by penis. Besides some types of species of the genus <em>Copelatus</em> Erichson, 1832 examined have permitted the description of other african species: <em>C. sylvaticoides</em> (group <em>irinus</em>, subgroup <em>irinus</em>). Some observations concerning species of <em>Copelatus</em> genus, that have dentate penis, are reported.
Fauna Europaea provides a public web-service with an index of scientific names (including synonyms) of all living European land and freshwater animals, their geographical distribution at country level (up to the Urals, excluding the Caucasus region), and some additional information. The Fauna Europaea project covers about 230,000 taxonomic names, including 130,000 accepted species and 14,000 accepted subspecies, which is much more than the originally projected number of 100,000 species. This represents a huge effort by more than 400 contributing specialists throughout Europe and is a unique (standard) reference suitable for many users in science, government, industry, nature conservation and education.Coleoptera represent a huge assemblage of holometabolous insects, including as a whole more than 200 recognized families and some 400,000 described species worldwide. Basic information is summarized on their biology, ecology, economic relevance, and estimated number of undescribed species worldwide. Little less than 30,000 species are listed from Europe. The Coleoptera 2 section of the Fauna Europaea database (Archostemata, Myxophaga, Adephaga and Polyphaga excl. the series Elateriformia, Scarabaeiformia, Staphyliniformia and the superfamily Curculionoidea) encompasses 80 families (according to the previously accepted family-level systematic framework) and approximately 13,000 species. Tabulations included a complete list of the families dealt with, the number of species in each, the names of all involved specialists, and, when possible, an estimate of the gaps in terms of total number of species at an European level. A list of some recent useful references is appended. Most families included in the Coleoptera 2 Section have been updated in the most recent release of the Fauna Europaea index, or are ready to be updated as soon as the FaEu data management environment completes its migration from Zoological Museum Amsterdam to Berlin Museum für Naturkunde.
Etruscodytes nethuns, new genus and species of subterranean water beetle, is described from Italy. This phreatic beetle was collected pumping water from a well in Tuscany (Central Italy). It is the third genus of stygobiontic dytiscid beetle from Europe and the first record of a stygobiontic water beetle in Italy. Etruscodytes belongs to the subfamily Hydroporinae as well as the related genus Siettitia Abeille de Perrin, 1904 from France. The new genus shares with Siettitia the lateral stria on the pronotum entire, but differs from it in very wide subsquare head, prosternal process in contact with the lobed anterior projection of metasternum, absence of fusion of the sterna 2 and 3, elytra not completely fused and several other peculiar features.

Monts de CristalRésumé -Ce travail est dédié aux Coléoptères Hydradephaga recueillis en huit sites des Monts de Cristal y compris le site de Tchimbélé dans le Parc National des Monts de Cristal (République du Gabon) dans les années 2006 -2010; en total ont été recueillies 76 espèces (3 Noteridae et 73 Dytiscidae) dont 51 espèces dans le Parc. Les auteurs décrivent deux nouvelles espèces: Copelatus angouei (appartenant au groupe consors, sensu Guignot, 1961, distinguable des autres espèce du groupe par la taille petite, la silhouette robuste, le dessus nettement microréticulé couvert d'une pointillé fine et dense que lui donne un aspect mat et par la conformation caractéristique du pénis), Copelatus nguemai (appartenant au groupe irinus, sous-groupe assimilis sensu Guignot, 1961, près de assimilis Régimbart, 1895, dont elle se distingue par les longs éperons des metatibias nettement courbés au tiers apicale dans les deux sexes et par la conformation très caractéristique du pénis) et une nouvelle sous-espèce: Copelatus lasckonyi tchimbelensis appartenant au groupe irinus, sous-groupe irinus (sensu Guignot, 1961), caractérisée par la taille très petite, par la silhouette atténuée après les épaules en quelques exemplaires et par le dessus finement microréticulé, le pénis très caractéristique a la même conformation de la forme typique. L'examen des deux sintypes de Copelatus variegatus Régimbart, 1895 (appartenant au groupe erichsoni, sous-groupe atrosulcatus, sensu Guignot, 1961) Guignot, 1961, distinguibile dalle altre specie del gruppo per la piccola taglia, per la conformazione robusta, per il dorso nettamente microreticolato coperto da una punteggiatura fine e densa che gli conferisce un aspetto opaco e per la conformazione caratteristica del pene), Copelatus nguemai (appartenente al gruppo irinus, sottogruppo assimilis, sensu Guignot, 1961, vicino ad assimilis Régimbart, 1895, da cui si distingue per i lunghi speroni delle metatibie nettamente curvati al terzo apicale nei due sessi e per la conformazione caratteristica del pene) e una nuova sottospecie: Copelatus lasckonyi tchimbelensis (appartenente al gruppo irinus, sottogruppo irinus, sensu Guignot, 1961, caratterizzata dalla taglia molto piccola, dal profilo del corpo attenuato dopo gli omeri in alcuni esemplari e per il dorso finemente microreticolato, il pene molto caratteristico ha la stessa conformazione della forme tipica). L'esame dei due sintipi di Copelatus variegatus Régimbart, 1895 (appartenente al gruppo erichsoni, sottogruppo atrosulcatus, sensu Guignot, 1961), del Muséum Nationale d'Histoire Naturelle de Paris e degli esemplari di una specie vicina, dei Musei di Tervuren e di Bruxelles, hanno permesso la determinazione degli esemplari di C. variegatus raccolti durante le ricerche e la ridescrizione della specie nota fino ad oggi solo per i due sintipi (qui rispettivamente designati lectotipo e paralectotipo); contemporaneamente è stata identificata una nuova specie: Copelatus mendax, d...
