This work concerns the Coleoptera Hydradephaga collected in several sites of the Moukalaba - Doudou National Park and in external zone North of the Park. In the Park 107 species have been collected, 109 species in external zone. The Authors describe 7 new species of Dytiscidae: Hydrovatus rigatoi n. sp. (confossus group) chiefly distinguishable for shape of penis; Bidessus mboyei n. sp. (sharpi group, ovoideus subgroup) close to B. ovoideus Régimbart, 1895 and B. seydeli Biström, 1885, distinguishable for smaller size and for shape of penis; Clypeodytes acutipenis n. sp. close to C. densepunctatus Biström, 1988, distinguishable for apex of penis clearly pointed; Laccophilus sinuosipenis n. sp. (deceptor group) close to L. bizonatus Régimbart, 1895, distinguishable for sinuous shape of penis; Laccophilus cianferonii n. sp. (deceptor group) close to L. bilardoi Pederzani and Rocchi, 1982, chiefly distinguishable for shape of penis; Copelatus bapounouensis n. sp. (erichsonii group, atrosulcatus subgroup) close to C. ellai Bilardo and Rocchi, 1995, chiefly distinguishable for shape of penis; Copelatus gigas n. sp. (erichsonii group, vigintisulcatus subgroup) close to C. fasciatus Bilardo and Rocchi, 1995, chiefly distinguishable for large size and for shape of penis. Moreover some observations concerning the ecology and data about the distribution of several species are provided.

The African species of the genus Laccophilus Leach, 1815, are revised, on the basis of study of adult specimens. In all, 105 species are now recognized. A phenetic character-analysis was undertaken, which resulted in a split of the genus into 17 species groups. Diagnoses and a description of each species are given together with keys for identification of species groups and species. We also provide habitus photos, illustration of male genitalia and distribution maps for all species. New species are described as follows: Laccophilus grossus sp. n. (Angola, Namibia), Laccophilus rocchii sp. n. (Tanzania, Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique), Laccophilus ferrugo sp. n. (Mozambique), Laccophilus furthi sp. n. (Madagascar), Laccophilus isamberti sp. n. Capelatus prykei gen. et sp.n., a distinctive new lineage of copelatine diving beetle, is described from the greater Cape Town area of the Western Cape Province, South Africa, on the basis of both morphological and molecular data. The genus‐level phylogeny of Copelatinae is reconstructed using a combination of nuclear and mitochondrial DNA regions, demonstrating that Capelatus gen.n. has no close relatives within the Afrotropical region, instead forming a clade with the Palaearctic Liopterus and largely Australasian Exocelina. Capelatus gen.n. apparently represents a striking example of a phylogenetically isolated Cape lineage, which also appears to be narrowly endemic and endangered by ongoing habitat loss.
