Introduction: This study investigated the relationship between compassion fatigue and compassion satisfaction among Iranian nurses working in critical care units. Method: A cross-sectional, descriptive survey using the Professional Quality of Life instrument was administered to 400 nurses working in the intensive care units of Iranian hospitals. Results: High risk levels of burnout and secondary traumatic stress existed among 42% and 96% of participants, respectively. Significant positive relationships were detected between burnout and secondary traumatic stress. An inverse relationship was detected between measures of compassion fatigue and compassion satisfaction. Discussion: To ensure culturally congruent care, it is important to evaluate professional quality of life within the context of specific cultures and societies. Iranian critical care nurses are at risk for burnout and secondary traumatic stress. Personal self-care and organizational wellness approaches that consider cultural norms should be designed to boost compassion satisfaction and reduce negative effects of stressful work environments.
Introduction: Although nurses and physicians are known to share the common goal of improving the quality of health care, there has traditionally been a relational gap between them. The aim of the present study was to investigate the attitude of Iranian nurses about physician-nurse collaboration and its relationship with their job satisfaction. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, a total of 232 nurses were recruited from three educational hospitals of Zanjan University of medical sciences. Three questionnaires were used in this study; (a) Demographic data questionnaire, (2) Jefferson Scale of Attitudes toward Physician–Nurse Collaboration (JSAPNC), and (3) Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire. Results: In this study, the mean age of the participants was 33.22(SD= 6.13) years, 83.8% of nurses were female, 90.8% had a baccalaureate degree in nursing, and 82.5 % had rotational work shifts. The mean score of physician-nurse collaboration was found to be 48.07 (SD= 8.95) (ranged from 15 to 60), and the mean score of job satisfaction scale was 57.78 (SD = 14.67) (ranged from 20 to 100). There was a significant positive correlation between the attitudes toward physician–nurse collaboration and job satisfaction among the nurses (r=0.59, P≤0.001). Conclusion: The results indicated that the collaboration between nurses and physicians increases the job satisfaction of nurses working in clinical settings. Therefore, nurses and physicians should develop a new culture of collaboration with each other with the mutual goal of high quality patient care. Moreover, health care administrators should implement the strategies that strengthen the development of physician–nurse collaboration.
Background & Aims: Due to the increase in the elderly population in the country, this group is facing increasing problems. Attention to the importance of promoting the health of the elderly and the need to pay attention to the components of health promotion, including resilience and self-worth, requires steps to be taken in this regard. The aim of this study was to determine the health-promoting behaviors of the elderly and the predictive role of resilience and self-worth among the elderly. Materials & Methods:This study is a descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study. 427 elderly people over 60 years of age who were referred to the health centers in Tabriz in 2019 participated in the study.Samples were entered into the study using multi-stage random cluster sampling method. Health promotion behaviors questionnaire (HPAOAM), standard self-assessment questionnaire (CSWS), and resilience questionnaire (CD-RISC) were used to collect data. Data analysis was performed using descriptive and inferential statistics including multivariate linear regression test in SPSS version 15. Results:The results showed that health promotion behaviors of the elderly had a statistically significant relationship with their self-esteem and resilience (p <0.05). The variables of self-esteem and resilience predict about 3.7% and 24.1% of the variance of health promotion behaviors in the elderly, respectively. Conclusion:Considering the extent of health-promoting behaviors in the elderly, it is necessary to pay more attention to the factors affecting it. Also, considering the relationship between the healthpromoting behaviors of the elderly and the level of self-worth and resilience, health managers and policy makers must take appropriate measures to promote the level of self-worth and resilience in the elderly.
