An average of 80 thousand occupational accidents occurs each year in Turkey and 1500 workers are lost their lives. In accordance to "policy of preventive approach", many legal arrangements have been made in Turkey. In this context, weight to issues such as risk assessment and preventive OHS services is given; however, employee training, employee participation, labour inspect, and periodic checks in working areas such as maintenance and audit have not been achieved. The level of implementation of legal arrangements was inadequate. Research was carried out to determine the significance rate of the factors that cause accidents in 5 sectors with the highest number of occupational accidents in Turkey. Questionnaires administered to experienced safety specialists were reviewed by analyzing with the fuzzy TOPSIS method. According to the results, especially in the construction and coal mining sectors and all sectors in general, employee training, employee participation and periodic maintenance in the workplace are more important accident prevention factors than risk assessment and preventive OH & S services. It is seen that for the prevention of accidents, all measures should be implemented by systematic and by a multidisciplinary approach.
The aim of this study is to analyze the risks arising from fire installations in workplaces. It also aims to propose a risk analysis method in the form of a “Fire Safety Risk Ranking System” for enterprises with a closed work area of more than 1000m2 in accordance with regulations in Turkey. The relative weights of fire safety factors were determined by Fuzzy AHP. The ranking points of the enterprises were calculated by using the weights obtained with FAHP. From the 45 enterprises where the risk assessment was applied, only 3 enterprises scored 100 full points according to the fire risk ranking method, and 30 enterprises had a score below 80 points. Out of these, 6 scored below 60 points, which is considered a low score. The distribution of enterprises within sectors was not equal. According to the results, only 6.6% of the enterprises are in compliance with legislation and standards, about 67% are inadequate in terms of fire safety and continue to operate under serious fire risks.
Solid waste disposal is one of the important environmental and socioeconomic problems faced by city managers with the increase in urban population. To overcome this problem, landfilling is a common and effective solution used by municipalities frequently. This study aims to assess and identify suitable potential areas for municipal solid waste disposal. For this purpose, a criteria determination and evaluation commission consisting of experts from various institutions and disciplines was established. Fourteen criteria, including environmental, economic and sociocultural sensitivities, were selected via the experience of an expert team and a wide literature search. The criteria used in this study were standardized by using fuzzy membership functions and feature values turned into continuous values. The Stepwise Weight Assessment Ratio Analysis (SWARA) method, in which expert opinions are effective, was used to determine the criterion weights. A site suitability map was obtained by using the Weighted Linear Combination (WLC) method with standardized thematic maps and the criterion weight variables. As a result of this study, 3.44% of the total study area was determined suitable for a solid waste storage area. These determined areas were found in different locations of study and numbered on the map and each of them was selected as an alternative storage area candidate. Developed methodology was validated via exploration and observation of candidate areas by the expert team. The proposed methodology can be used for similar scale cities with its ease of use, flexibility and expert opinion.
In this study, an application was carried out using the hidden Markov model based on Markov chains on the reasons for the brand preferences and preferences of young consumers who are university students for the sports apparel sector. The data used in the application were obtained through the surveys conducted for the students studying at Yıldız Technical University's Yıldız campus. A Hidden Markov model was established based on the brands preferred by Yıldız Technical University students in the sports industry and the data related to the reasons for the preference of these brands. With this model, the preferred brands for sportswear and the reasons for the preference of these brands were estimated for the students studying on Yıldız campus. For estimates, the first two problems of the hidden Markov model "three basic problems" were exploited. As a result of the estimates, the percentages of sportswear brands were found to be preferred. According to the results, the most important reason for choosing is "Fabric and Sewing Properties-Design".Anahtar kelimeler: Markov zincirleri, Saklı Markov modeli, Tahminleme, Marka tercihi
