The purpose of this study is to systematically review the city branding literature, organize the subject matters and draw a map of the development and change in the city branding research domain. As a result, city branding literature is categorized under four thematic areas: (1) city branding concept, processes and measurement; (2) branding strategies; (3) social urbanism; and (4) branding culture and tourism. Most of the studies are research based. The qualitative methods are commonly used. There is a general tendency to describe the data but not to interpret the relations between the concepts and theories. Therefore, the knowledge is idiographic.
Logistics Centers (LCs) are among the most important facilities for rapid, cost effective, environmental friendly and secure logistics services to the urban logistics problems. Finding proper locations to LCs has an important effect on their success. In this study, LCs’ location selection problem for Istanbul Metropolitan area is investigated. Istanbul is a leading city of Turkey in many categories including various industries, import/export amounts, transportation infrastructure and population density. However, industrialization and urbanization have introduced numerous problems to Istanbul. New projects are continuously being announced for the problems of metropolis, however, they may also bring new problems if they are not punctiliously planned and applied. Hence, in this study, it is aimed to propose a systematic Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) approach for the LCs’ location selection problem of Istanbul. In this approach, an integrated DEcision-MAking Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) and Intuitionistic Fuzzy (IF) Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method is utilized. DEMATEL is used to analyse the decision criteria and IF-TOPSIS is used to evaluate candidate locations for LCs. Considering the vagueness inherent to this decision-making problem, IF sets are used for the evaluation process. Results are compared with the results of IF-VIKOR (VIše Kriterijumska Optimizacija kompromisno Rešenje – multi-criteria optimization and compromise solution) technique.
Transportation infrastructure and logistics facilities are partly different in both Turkey and Germany in terms of geographical location, industrial history and economy. The world witnesses the highest logistics performance index score in Germany. Meanwhile, Turkey experiences a promptly development. As Europe's largest economy and second most populous nation, Germany leads in developing logistics strategies and services as a key member of the EU's economic and political structure. On the other hand, Turkey possesses a strategic location between the continents but conventionally problems in transportation mode split and interconnectivity of systems that interfere with "hub" role for its region and achieve economic benefit. This paper aims to focus on transportation mode sprit and location decision of freight villages in Germany to understand the mind behind success. With this purpose, first section is substantially based on secondary data gathered from Turkish/German Statistical Institutes, Ministries of Transportation and NGO's of the sector and academic studies. Finally, the lessons to be taken for Turkey's future policies are presented. Results indicate that, the finest detail is hidden behind the railway investments and their connections with other modes for Turkey. Germany's logistics workforce and infrastructure is geographically spread all over the country, but in Turkey, unbalanced regional development force country to polarised developed regions in the western part.
Purpose -Liberalization policies of 1980s had transforming and accelerating influence over the formation of Anatolian capital. Taking innovativeness as granted, New Regionalist studies especially on Turkish SMEs explains the reasons of this development. The aim of this article is to evaluate concerning literature and concepts of development style of (Afterwards so called) Anatolian Tigers. Methodology -This research is based on methodology of secondary data analysis: selection and discussion of theoretical and descriptive material, in context, and detailed comparison of theories in terms of their applicability. Findings-Briefly factors to the economic rise of Anatolian Tigers are New industrial spaces conceptualization, Flexible Specialization, Changing aspect of international division of labour, Core-periphery paradigm. Conclusion-Anatolian Tigers development process is reflect of liberalization term of 1980's, opening Turkey's doors to the global economy. This development model and the way they integrate to the world economy is unique development style of Turkey.
By 2000's, Turkey admits itself as a powerful economic and politic actor in the transnational region. Such a substantial purpose can only be realistic if it integrates with national transportation policies. Due to the fact, it is significant to reveal how transportation issue is evaluated in upper scale plans. The aim of the article is to clarify the approach to transportation sector. The research covers the evaluation of three development plans and the Specialization Commission reports from the 8th Five-Year Development Plan to the present. While preparing the research, a qualitative and thematic analysis based on secondary data research was conducted by examining the publications of the relevant public institution. At the end of the research; it is concluded that the Development Plans do not provide integrity and the reflection on the subscale plans besides far from being practical.
