This study set out to examine the effectiveness of project-based science learning towards pre-service teachers literacy skills and learning creativity in wave and optical materials. This quasi-experimental study involved 115 students of Primary Teacher Education Program, Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta. Direct and in-depth data dissemination techniques were used in this study. The aspects of creative thinking abilities include fluency, authenticity, elaboration, and flexibility. Mann Withney U test was used to test the hypothesis, while the N-Gain test was performed to determine the pre-service teachers improvement in scientific literacy skills and creative thinking. Both qualitative and quantitative data analyses were performed in this study. The results showed that: 1) material and optical tools–based learning activities are appropriate for the pre-service teachers scientific literacy skills and creative thinking. The correct answer term includes the highest average probability statistics from other subindicators; 2) aspects of science that are used in the aspects of literacy is in good category but the originality aspect in its ability needs to be developed and processed continuously. Penelitian ini dilakukan secara eksperimen semu. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 115 siswa semester Program Pendidikan Guru Pratama, Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta. Teknik penyebaran data langsung dan mendalam. Aspek kemampuan berpikir kreatif meliputi kelancaran, keaslian, elaborasi, dan fleksibilitas. Untuk menentukan besarnya peningkatan keterampilan literasi sains dan siswa berpikir kreatif digunakan N-Gain Test hipotesis menggunakan tes Mann Withney U. Analisis data dilakukan secara kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: 1) kegiatan pembelajaran berbasis material dan alat optik sesuai untuk keterampilan literasi sains dan pemikiran kreatif siswa. Istilah jawaban yang benar mencakup statistik probabilitas rata-rata tertinggi dari subindikator lainnya; 2) aspek ilmu yang digunakan dalam aspek literasi dalam aspek yang baik tetapi aspek orisinalitas dalam kemampuannya perlu dikembangkan dan diolah terus- menerus. Abstract.A comparison synthetic strategy of Metal-Organic Frameworks, namely, Hongkong University of Techhnology-1 {HKUST-1[Cu 3 (BTC)] 2 } (BTC = 1,3,5-benzene-tri-carboxylate) through solvothermal and electrochemical method in ethanol:water (1:1) has been conducted. The obtained material was analyzed using powder X-ray diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Thermo-Gravimetric Analysis (TGA) and Surface Area Analysis (SAA). While the voltage in the electrochemical method are varied, ranging from 12 to 15 Volt. The results show that at 15 V the texture of the material has the best degree of crystallinity and comparable with solvothermal product. This indicated from XRD data and supported by the SEM image to view the morphology. The thermal stability of the synthesized compounds is up to 320 °C. The shape of the nitrogen sorption isotherm of the compound corresponds to type I of the IUPAC adsorption isotherm classification for microporous materials with BET surface area of 629.2 and 324.3 m²/g (for solvothermal and electrochemical product respectively) and promising for gas storage application. Herein, the methane storage capacities of these compounds are also tested.
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematic) education including science learning, is needed to face 21st century development, especially for training thinking skill. STEM is believed to increase students' thinking skill, interest, and STEM literacy. This study aims to know the extent of thinking skill trained through science learning in Junior High School, and to know challenges and potencies of developing STEM-based science learning. The study was conducted in SMP N 1 Masaran through various data collection methods. Data were collected by in-depth interviews to 7 science teachers, observation, documentation, and literature study about plan and process of science lesson, also STEM education as an approach. And then, data were analyzed reflectively toward various documents and literatures. Assessments which categorized "higher order thinking skill" were below 5% of all assessments provided to students. There is potencies that able to develop to train students' thinking skill through STEM-based science learning which appropriate with national curriculum in Indonesia. Teachers can innovate in developing strategies and lesson plans to incorporate content Technology, Engineering, and Mathematic in science lesson for train students' thinking skill.
