Teaching English for students of non-English department is often challenging, especially when most of the students have low English competence. This study aims to propose a method called Translatonomics to teach English for Economics through translation practice to encourage the students to understand English contextually. The participants are 25 students of Management and 25 students of Accounting study program. The research was conducted firstly to identify the ability of the students to understand English text about Economics and translate it into Bahasa Indonesia, then to introduce contextual translation from translating simple sentences, short paragraphs, and text. The analysis showed that most students still have high dependency on instant translation such as Google Translate and do not try to relate the context as they do not understand the text. Therefore, it is important to encourage the students to understand the text contextually and one of the ways is through translation practice. In teaching translation, it was started from translating simple sentences, translating short paragraphs, and translating texts. The students were encouraged to understand and to translate Economics texts contextually from English into Bahasa Indonesia and to minimize their dependency on instant translation tools such as Google Translate.
The current research focuses on analyzing the translation techniques of Islamic terminologies in bilingual children storybooks from Indonesian into English. The source of the data is two selected bilingual children storybooks Seri Belajar Islam sejak Usia Dini. This study applied a descriptive qualitative approach to analyze the data, to explain the phenomena, and to withdraw the conclusion. The result showes that in Ayo Belajar Manasik Haji there are 33 Islamic terminologies and 6 translation techniques, while in Ayo Belajar Hadist there are 24 Islamic terminologies and 5 translation techniques.
Many government officials use Instagram as a means of communication. In Indonesia, one of them is Ridwan Kamil, the mayor of Bandung City who has more than 7 million of followers on Instagram and has shared more than 4000 posts. A lot of his posts contain such hilarious wordplay, for example is puns. This research aims to identify the classification and function of puns found in Instagram posts of Ridwan Kamil. This study is qualitative descriptive research which describes a language phenomenon in social media. The researcher selected Instagram posts from an account @ridwankamil which contain puns as the samples. The period of the posts were taken during the year of 2017. The results show that there are five types of puns: homonymic pun, homophonic pun, paronymy, compund pun, and recursive pun. The puns have functions to create humor and to provide brevity and persuasion.
