Business Intelligence (BI) and SMEs are two distinctive research domains but greater interaction between these two entities can offer the effective learn from each other. This interaction has been consider in conducting the changing environment. This interaction does only strengthen individual insights of BI and SMEs, it contributes to the business environmental performance. Although research on BI and SMEs is vast to date, limited focus was given on learning aspect between BI and SMEs. Therefore, this study is aimed to analyse literature and explore an integrated view of literature analysed on how BI and SMEs learn from each other and contributes to the business environmental performance. A qualitative content analysis was conducted for the procedure, which considers 43 articles for data source. Findings of the literature review suggest enhancing capability of SMEs and new innovation of BI, which may affect each other. Findings of this study may become useful for further research in terms of BI implementation success.
Business intelligence (BI) has widely been recognized due to its growing applications in improving the decision-making support. The growing trend of BI applications necessitates a study on organizational capability readiness which offers significant effects in BI implementations. However, a limited number of studies focused on issues related to organizational capability readiness for BI implementations. Therefore, this study aims to analyze and explore an integrated view of literature in relation to organizational capability readiness for BI implementations. A qualitative content analysis of relevant sample articles was conducted for exploring the thematic understanding on organizational capability readiness for BI implementations. The main findings of this review study are classified in two categories, i.e., readiness of managerial proficiency and readiness of IS-led environment. The first category “readiness of managerial proficiency” integrates several factors such as the readiness of awareness, commitment, and absorptive capacity. The second category “readiness of IS-led environment” integrates the readiness of technological support, personnel capability, and data quality management. The findings of this review study would significantly contribute to the researchers and practitioners for the sustainable development of BI implementation in business.
Business intelligence (BI) has proliferated due to its growing application for business decision support. Research on organizational factors may offer significant use in BI implementation. However, a limited number of studies focus on organizational factors for revealing adverse impacts on effective decision support. The aim of this theoretical study is to conduct a literature analysis to identify organizational factors relevant to BI implementation. Through a systematic literature review, a qualitative content analysis on 49 relevant sample articles for generating themes inductively is adopted to reveal organizational factors. Findings suggest two contexts: information management that integrates factors such as technological capability and personnel capability and organizational context that integrates factors such as organizational capability, managerial decision, and organizational culture for facilitating embedding information management capability for BI implementation in businesses. It is hoped that these contextual understanding can be useful for further BI implementations.

Studies on BI application in improving decision support are not new. However, research on BI institutionalization seems sparse. BI institutionalization may positively contribute to a managerial role in using BI application repetitively for the decision-making iteration in businesses. This article aims to carry out an integrative literature review and report consolidated views of the body of knowledge. The study adopted a qualitative content analysis to generate themes about BI routinization in the decision-making iteration. Eighty-eight research articles were selected for the study. However, 57 articles were finally included for review. The findings suggest information management capability as the key necessity for BI application and its alignment with the organizational standard for BI institutionalization.
