The combined effect of Darcy and viscous resistances on tbe fully developed natural convection of a fluid between two heated vertical plates is investigated. When Darcy and viscous dissipations, in the energy equation, are negligible the energy and momentum equations become decoupled and we obtain the modified Poiseuille flow distribution through porous media. The deviation of the velocity and temperature distributions from those existing in modihed PoiseuiIle flow are presented for various porous number u (=blk, b is the spacing between the plates and k is the permeability of the porous medium) when dissipations are not neglected. It is shown that the increase in porous number rapidly decreases the inlIuence of both viscous and Darcy dissipations on velocity and temperature protiles. Therefore, by suitable adjustment of dissipation terms, it is possible to control the temperature distribution which will be of some use in plant physiology.
Abstract-Blood flow in arteries idealized into a channel of varying gap bounded by porous layer is studied. Analytical solutions are obtained using Beavers and Joseph slip condition by three approximate methods depending upon the geometrical configuration. The general solutions are applied to a particular problem of smooth constriction idealized into an artery with stenosis. The resistance of the porous layer to the tlow in the channel and the shear stress at the nominal surface are discussed in detail. It is shown that for a given porous layer, depending on the value of the porous parameter aa,,, this may lead to an increase or decrease in the resistance and the shear stress may be used in evaluating the performance of various prosthetic devices which ultimately may be implanted in the living system.
Bidirectional high gain DC-DC buck boost converter is a virtual interface among PV source and inverter fed motor drive. In this article, a PV panel integrating a non-isolated bidirectional DC/DC converter that has high voltage gain voltage and a 3 phase three level DC/AC inverter is projected. It highlights the comparison between proportional integral controller (PIC), fractional order proportional integral derivative Controller (FOPIDC) and fuzzy logic controller (FLC) based Bidirectional DC/DC Power Converter System (BDDPCS). The design, model and simulation using SIMULINK of open loop BDDPCS and closed loop PIC, FOPIDC and FLC based BDDPCS are done and the results are discussed. The findings indicate higher performance for FLC based control of BDDPCS. The proposed BDDPCS has merits such as bidirectional power transferability, lesser hardware count with enhanced dynamic response. The hardware of BDDPCS is tested and the experiment result is compared in association with simulation results.
Surface features such as soil moisture and vegetation have a profound impact on the surface energy balance and the atmospheric boundary layer. To quantify this effect for a tropical location, a detailed field experiment, VEBEX, was designed and successfully executed in a tropical site at Bangalore, India. VEBEX was a joint experiment between the North Carolina State University, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), and the University of Agricultural Science (UAS) at Bangalore, India. Continuous surface meteorological measurements were taken over an entire crop period (pre-sowing to post-harvest). During different stages of the plant growth, intensive observations of surface turbulence, and measurements of physiological and soil moisture measurements were also conducted. The results obtained provide an insight into the unusually strong variability for the tropics. Interpretation of the observations and an overview of the analysis procedure and future research initiatives are also presented.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
