Introduction:Remineralization as a treatment procedure has received much attention from clinicians. The objective of this in vitro study was to find out the efficacy of casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP), casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate fluoride (CPP-ACPF), and tricalcium phosphate fluoride (TCP-F) in remineralizing enamel surface on which artificial caries lesion had been created. The changes were analyzed using DIAGNOdent® (KaVo) and scanning electron microscope (SEM).Materials and Methods:A total of 52 premolars and 24 molars were selected and classified into four groups of 13 premolars and 6 molars in each: I (CPP-ACP), II (CPP-ACPF), III (TCP-F), and IV (artificial saliva). All the samples were assessed using DIAGNOdent at the baseline and after demineralization and remineralization. Ten samples were randomly selected from each group baseline after demineralization and after remineralization for surface evaluation using SEM.Results:Statistical analysis showed that all the experimental groups had a significantly higher amount of remineralization except for group IV.Conclusion:All the three experimental groups showed a statistically significant amount of remineralization. However, because of the added benefit of fluoride (NaF 0.2%), CPP-ACPF (Tooth Mousse-Plus®) and TCP-F showed marginally more amount of remineralization than did CPP-ACP (Tooth Mousse®). Remineralization efficacy was TCP-F > CPP-ACPF > CPP-ACP.
Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of intensive application of sodium fluoride varnish in prevention of caries in molars in children between 6 and 7 years and to evaluate the caries status in molars before and after application of fluoride varnish (Cavity Shield).
Background:The anterior lingual salivary glands (glands of Blandin–Nuhn) are mixed mucous and serous glands that are embedded within the musculature of anterior tongue ventrum.Aim:The present study was designed to describe the clinical and histopathological features.Material and Methods:We investigated the clinical and histopathologic features of 30 cases of mucocele of glands of Blandin–Nuhn. All the cases were seen in the department of pedodontics. Results:All the lesions were located on the ventral surface of the tongue. Lesions were situated at the midline in 24 patients and laterally in 6 patients. All the lesions were surgically treated. There was female predominance, and most patients were younger than 15 years. Conclusion:Histopathological examination showed extravasation type of mucocele, suggesting that trauma may be a frequent initiating factor. All the patients were younger than 15 years.
Injury to anterior teeth is a relatively common event. Dentists are confronted with managing dental trauma and restoring fractured teeth on a regular basis. Hence the technique that speed and simplify treatment, restore esthetics and improve long term success rate are therefore of potential value and should be considered. If an intact tooth fragment is present after trauma, the incisal edge reattachment procedure presents a conservative, simple and esthetic alternative. Clinical trials have reported that reattachment using modern dentine bonding agents and resin system may achieve a functional and esthetic success. This article presents with a case report of restoration of fractured maxillary central incisor using fragment reattachment in a 12 year old child. The reattachment was carried out using resin cement followed by additional chamfer on buccal surface which was restored with resin composite. The reattached fragment was found to be intact at a 2 year follow-up visit.
Background: Caries is a multifactorial disease, microbes being an important etiological factor. “Probiotics” are nonpathogenic microbes which can stimulate health-promoting flora and suppress pathogens. It's the era of prevention, clinical approach toward prevention by altering bacterial ecology is the need of the hour. The aim of the study was to evaluate anticariogenic effect of probiotic curd (Amul's Probiotic Dahi) containing Lactobacillus acidophilus (La5) and Bifidobacterium lactis (Bb12) in 6–12 years of age group. Materials and Methods: This was a prospective, randomized, nonblinded study conducted on school children aged between 6 and 12 years having Decayed, Missing, and Filled Teeth and/or deft ≥2. Selected subjects were divided into two groups of 31 each, study group received probiotic curd (“Amul's Probiotic Dahi”) two times a day in a quantity of 100 g, respectively, for 21 days and control group did not receive any intervention. Salivary Streptococcus mutans count and salivary pH estimation were done at the baseline, after 7 days and at the end after 24 days, for comparison. Results: No statistical difference was seen in salivary S. mutans count between both groups, after intervention of 7 days. However, there was significant difference in salivary S. mutans count at the end of 24 days. There was no statistical difference in salivary pH between both groups. Conclusion: The present study concludes that probiotics substitute decreases salivary S. mutans count after continuous consumption for 3 weeks and there is no short-term effect on salivary pH.
