2 experiments on classification were carried out with stimuli consisting of a pair of dots which could vary in Position, Distance between dots, and Orientation of the dots. In free classification, stimulus sets are presented to S, who dichotomously classifies according to any attribute he chooses. In this task choices are affected by individual preferences for attributes as well as by discriminability of the attribute chosen and discriminability of competing attributes. In constrained classification, S is required to sort stimulus sets according to the attribute specified by E, and speed of sorting is measured. In this task, only discriminability of the criterion attribute affects performance.
We calculate the tensor charge of the quark in the QCD-like theory in the Landau gauge using the Schwinger-Dyson formalism. It is found that the dressed tensor charge of the quark is significantly suppressed against the bare quark contribution, and the result agrees qualitatively with the analyses in the collinear factorization approach and lattice QCD. We also analyze the quark confinement effect with the phenomenological strong coupling given by Richardson, and find that this contribution is small. We show that the suppression of the quark tensor charge is due to the superposition of the spin flip of the quark arising from the successive emission of gluons which dress the tensor vertex. We also consider the relation between the quark and the nucleon electric dipole moments by combining with the simple constituent quark model.
Near-infrared spectra of 15 high-redshift radio galaxies (HzRGs) located at 2 < z < 2.6 were obtained by the OH Airglow Suppressor spectrograph mounted on the Subaru telescope. The UV-optical line ratio diagnostic diagrams indicate that half of the observed HzRGs have extended emission-line regions with low metal abundance, photoionized by a flat-continuum active galactic nucleus such as a quasar. We also found two probable correlations between radio and rest-optical parameters: (1) HzRGs with massive hosts tend to have a redder rest-optical continuum, and (2) HzRGs with smaller radio sizes also show a redder optical continuum. On the basis of the correlations, the nature of HzRGs at 2 < z < 2.6 is discussed.
Quark-hadron matter at finite temperature and density is studied using a two-flavor, color SU(2) (P)NJL model. The hadronic effective Lagrangian, derived by bosonization of the quark fields and renormalized using the Eguchi method, emerges in the form of an extended linear σ model with meson and diquark-baryon fields. Chiral and diquark condensates are studied as functions of temperature and baryon density. Masses of mesons and diquarkbaryons are calculated with and without the Polyakov loop effect. We investigate the equation of state of quark-hadron matter by taking into account the contributions of mesons and diquark-baryons in addition to the quark quasiparticles.
