This paper presents workability, compressive strength and microstructure for geopolymer pastes and mortars made of class C fly ash at mass ratios of water-to-fly ash from 0.30 to 0.35. Fluidity was in the range of 145–173 mm for pastes and 131–136 mm for mortars. The highest strengths of paste and mortar were 58 MPa and 85 MPa when they were cured at 70 °C for 24 h. In XRD patterns, unreacted quartz and some reacted product were observed. SEM examination indicated that reacted product has formed and covered the unreacted particles in the paste and mortar that were consistent with their high strength.
There is a high prevalence of suicide among elderly Chinese, and particularly among elderly Chinese women in Mainland China with a prevalence of 19.6 per hundred thousand. Since Chinese individuals may much more highly value education, a cognitive-behavioral package originated by Ricardo Munoz, Ph.D. was adapted for Chinese American subjects. The material was videotaped in eight sessions, approximately 25 minutes in length, to be shown to community subjects who were at least 40 years and over. In addition, a videotape of muscular relaxation techniques was made. A manual written in Chinese about the content of each class, was given to each subject when he/she attended. The experimental group showed significant improvement in the scores in the Hamilton Depression Scale, including the Somatic Subscale in the Hamilton Anxiety Scale. There was no significant improvement in the control group on any of the measures. Thus the study suggests the efficacy of psychoeducational classes in reducing symptoms of depression in non-patient community elderly. Other studies are being conducted among Korean Americans and Japanese Americans in the United States, and also in the Orient among Japanese elderly.
Hydrophilic oligo(ethylene glycol) (OEG) side chains are more flexible than alkyl chains and can facilitate the π−π stacking of conjugated polymer backbones, which has been proven to be a key structural feature leading to better device performance in polymer:fullerene blend polymer solar cells (PSCs). So far, little has been known about the influence of OEG side chains on the performance of non-fullerene acceptors in polymer:non-fullerene acceptor blends. Based on an easily accessible conjugated backbone of dicyanomethylene indanone−thiophene−fluorene−thiophene−dicyanometnylene indanone (DICTF), two non-fullerene molecular acceptors were synthesized with decyl (DICTF-C10) and triethylene glycol monoether (DICTF-TEG) side chains to blend with the polymer donor of PTB7-Th for PSCs. Replacing the decyl side chains with the TEGs on DICTF does improve the π−π stacking between the conjugated backbones as expected. For DICTF-TEG, nevertheless, forming the BHJ blend with the PTB7-Th donor leads to unfavorable film morphology structure of the active blend and deteriorated device performance with much lower PCE of 3.09% compared to the blend of PTB7-Th:DICTF-C10 with the maximum PCE of 6.93% at optimized conditions. It is found that charge generation, transport, and recombination within the PSC devices of the two acceptors were greatly impacted by introducing TEG side chains instead of alkyls into the conjugated backbone of DICTF. This comparative study on understanding the side chain effect on device performance allows the establishment of guidance on molecular engineering of non-fullerene molecular acceptors to obtain high performance PSCs.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
