-Nowadays, there is a greater trend in EFL teaching where technology is integrated in the classroom to improve communicative environment during language learning which trigger English instructors who work in ESP language teaching to create a teaching technique that can improve the communication skills of their students. Hence, the idea of using Vlog in classroom as one of task-based language teaching concept is proposed to help students to practice English independently outside of classroom, particularly for speaking skill that they find difficult to learn. Thus, the aim of this paper is to show how Vlog, a fusion of video and blog,is used in EFL teaching and learning in classroom to develop students' spoken skills and public communication. This paper also intended to discuss how teachers and students can very easily use Vlog by integrating smartphone, camera and computer mechanism. The samples of this research were students of Culinary and Food & Beverage Management of Batam Tourism Polytechnic. The research was a qualitative study where the data obtained from case analysis on strategies implemented by researcher to integrate Vlog in teaching and learning process.
This study aimed to analyze analyzes suggestion acts that were spoken by English instructors in conversation classes at the Andalas University Language Center. The purposes purposes of this study are are to identify and explain explain the types of speech acts, taxonomies, modifications, and reasons of the instructor expressing the speech. The findings indicate indicate that the two instructors expressed different suggestions at each meeting. The highest intensity of appearance of suggestion acts is is seen in the first meeting of the first instructor and the third meeting of the second instructor. Furthermore, the two instructors also express express the same type of taxonomy/suggestion acts as conventionalized forms. Then, a similar fact is is found from the modified aspect, namely subjectivizer. The reasons reason why the instructor expresses suggestions are are influenced by social distance, power,, and imposition. Based on these findings, it is is implied that the suggestion actions action taken by the instructors instructors are are influenced by the culture of the community and the class context.
Literature and culture are two elements that cannot be separated as overall general knowledge. Thus, it is evident that EFL learners are suggested to learn literature and study it when learning English as a foreign language. This is due to the reason that literature can be used as motivating material that is represented in the value listed in the story. Clearly, literature is able to provide EFL students access to other people whose language they are studying. Unfortunately, research shows that teachers in high school find it difficult and seems boring to teach literature in the EFL classroom. Thus, this paper is aimed to show several strategies that EFL teachers might use to teach literature in their classroom as part of a genre-based approach application. The strategies are divided into pre-activity, whilst-activity, and post-activity.
Teaching English in Vocational Higher Education are designed not only to achieve students’ competence in obtaining English for academic matters but also to achieve skilled aspect for preparing learners in the industrial field, especially in writing skill. Thus, effective strategies should be delivered to achieve the goals of gaining students’ competence in writing skills. One of the strategies implemented is topic types which are expected to enhance students writing skills. This study is designed by using the library research method, which claimed that this topic types strategy might encourage students to generate ideas especially to help them in managing ideas before writing.
Community service is one of the mandatory tasks of lecturers as part of the realization of the Tri Dharma activities of Higher Education. In line with this, Tri Dharma activities are focused on important activities in contributing to improving the quality of life of the community, especially in developing skills that can be used in a wider scope of society. One of the activities carried out was the training of kombucha tea making techniques for PAUD teachers of GUGUS CAHAYA JINGGA at Batam Tourism Polytechnic. This training aims to provide information to teachers of PAUD Cahaya Jingga Cluster regarding the ingredients and process of making kombucha tea, knowing the time needed to produce fermented products, and knowing the morphological and chemical characteristics of kombucha tea. The specific target to be achieved is to make PAUD GUGUS CAHAYA JINGGA teachers skilled in processing kombucha tea products and can develop them in entrepreneurship so as to support financially in the economy.
