The Qur'an with all the words and sentences in it always gives birth to a double meaning. In accordance with the point of view, the approach used is the interpreter or reader. One of the words reviewed is sulthan, because the word contains variations in meaning depending on the syntax of the sentence before and after and the context that accompanies it. Therefore, this study reveals the meaning of the word sulthan from the verse Q.S. Ar-Rahman (55): 33. The theoretical approach used is the theory of ma'na cum maghza which was pioneered by Sahiron Syamsuddin as a hermeneutic lighter at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. With the description-analysis analysis method as well as the primary source in the form of the interpretation of the word sultan from various books of interpretation and also the Qur'an itself. Then secondary sources in the form of studies related to the theme of discussion, either in the form of journals, books, and so on. The results of this study are first, this verse is used as a reference source for the science of astronomy to explore the universe, because it expresses the invitation to penetrate the heavens and the earth. Second, the word sulthan in Surah Ar-Rahman verse 33 describes the power and power of Allah over his supervision of humans and jinn. Third, in depth the Qur'an through Surah Ar-Rahman verse 33 is a proof of Allah's power. AbstrakAl-Qur’an dengan segala kata dan kalimat di dalamnya selalu melahirkan makna ganda. Sesuai dengan sudut pandang, pendekatan yang digunakan mufassir atau pembaca. Salah satu kata yang diulas adalah sulthan, karena kata tersebut mengandung variasi makna tergantung kepada sintaksis kalimat sebelum dan sesudah serta konteks yang menyertainya. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini mengungkapkan makna kata sulthan dari ayat Q.S. Ar-Rahman (55): 33. Adapun teori pendekatan yang digunakan adalah teori ma’na cum maghza yang dipelopori oleh Sahiron Syamsuddin selaku pemantik hermeneutika di UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. Dengan metode analisis deskripsi-analisis serta sumber primer berupa penafsiran kata sulthan dari berbagai kitab tafsir dan juga al-Qur’an itu sendiri. Kemudian sumber sekunder berupa kajian-kajian yang terkait dengan tema pembahasan, baik berupa jurnal, buku, dan lain sebagainya. Adapun hasil penelitian ini adalah pertama, ayat ini dijadikan sumber rujukan tentang ilmu astronomi untuk menjelajahi alam semesta, karena di dalamnya mengungkapkan dipersilahkannya menembus langit dan bumi. Kedua, kata sulthan dalam surah Ar-Rahman ayat 33 mendeskripsikan tentang kekuatan dan kekuasaan Allah terhadap pengawasannya kepada manusia dan jin. Ketiga, secara mendalam al-Qur’an melalui surah Ar-Rahman ayat 33 ini sebagai bukti kekuasaan Allah Kata Kunci: Interpretasi; Ma’na-Cum-Maghza; QS. ar-Rahman: 33; Sulthan.
