The purpose of this study is to investigate the potential for restructuring industrial areas toward tourism development within local communities, with a special emphasis on the socio-cultural determinants of residents, as well as their attitudes regarding the sustainable development of tourism. The research is also oriented toward the interests of local communities with respect to entrepreneurial activities in the field of tourism within regions relying on traditional industries, in this case, one of the largest open-pit mining surfaces in Europe (near the Serbian town of Lazarevac). The survey was conducted on a sample of 273 respondents. The research results point to the residents’ attitudes regarding the acceptability of tourism development options, as well as their attitudes toward tourism development, with the aim of providing the conditions for a successful transition from a typical heavy industrial setting toward sustainable tourism development.
The subject matter of this research study is the importance of the sociodemographic characteristics and the personality dimensions of employees for communication satisfaction. This study is aimed at determining the significant influences and correlations between the main constructs within the research study conducted on a sample of 119 employees. The obtained results have shown that, except for the gender structure of the respondents, the other examined sociodemographic characteristics have an influence on certain dimensions of communication satisfaction. Correlations were also identified between certain personality dimensions and the dimensions of communication satisfaction. The research results have numerous practical implications. The quality of the interpersonal relationships between highly-educated employees and their supervisors needs to be improved by providing a greater autonomy and complex working tasks. It is also necessary to improve the bottom-up communication process for the purpose of enabling subordinates to express their ideas without barriers. Finally, it is recommended that employees with a high level of the personality dimensions 'Openness to new experiences' and 'Extraversion' should be in the positions in which they could achieve the best results.
Changes are happening everywhere, and the need to confront them is constant. Occupational safety and health protection is one of the fundamental rights of every human being, because the only safe work, healthy and safe working environment enable productive work and life. The Law on Safety and Health of Work regulates the implementation and improvement of the safety and health at work of persons involved in work processes, as well as persons encountered in the workplace, in order to prevent injuries at work, occupational diseases and diseases related to work. Namely, occupational injuries and occupational diseases are often accompanied by injuries, absenteeism from work that generates costs and expenditures because the worker does not work, the stagnation that occurs in production, and what significant funds are allocated for the treatment of workers, the compensation of his salary and other costs and expenditures that fall under the burden of employer and social security funds. The level of safety depends on the health and working capacity of employees, and therefore productivity within the company, which at the national level reflects on the level of national income. At the same time, by improving the protection of health at work and reducing the number of injuries at work, professional and other diseases, the burden on social security funds is reduced, which directly reflects the level of allocation of these funds on the basis of contributions and from the national budget. Therefore, the level of safety depends on the health and working capacity of employees, and therefore the productivity in the company, but also the ability of the working population at the national level, which affects the national income and standard of all citizens. A fireman is a member of a Fire Brigade aimed at extinguishing or controlling fire and fire styles, as well as protecting and rescuing persons and property during natural disasters and natural disasters, providing technical assistance in accidents and dangerous situations. In different countries, firefighters are organized differently, but they are characterized by a common will to protect man and his goods from uncontrolled fire. Firefighters are divided into professional and voluntary. Quality training is very important in fighting fire in order to intervene timely. Firefighters are in an unenviable position during interventions. Personal fire equipment is very important because it protects them from various dangers that are in contact with high-temperature bodies. The workplace of the firefighter is a workplace with an increased risk and it is necessary to take measures of protection in order to minimize the risk. It is necessary to quality training of future firefighters, since the knowledge acquired during schooling depends on their life, as well as the life of those who need to be saved.
Research Question: The research is oriented towards determining the moderator effects of the employees’ gender (structure) on the correlation between other research constructs, i.e., personality dimensions and job satisfaction. Motivation: Previous research on the influence of employees’ personality dimensions and gender as potential predictors of job satisfaction was also conducted in Serbia. However, no studies could be found in the literature focusing on identifying the moderating effect of the employees’ gender on correlation between job satisfaction and personality dimensions. The results would be of practical importance and applicable in human resource management practice in different organizations, particularly in transitional societies. Idea: The main subject of this research is oriented towards the employees’ dimensions of personality, according to the Big Five personality dimensions, on the one hand, and job satisfaction, on the other. The research was conducted within the conditions of transition, i.e., in the organization that will be under the organizational changes (such as privatization) in the following period. As transition may produce uncertainty of the job positions for the employees (especially within the large public-owned monopolistic enterprises), it could be considered that organizational changes, such as privatization, could affect job dissatisfaction to a significant extent. Data and Tools: The survey research was conducted within the large public-owned monopolistic enterprises in Serbia on the sample of 116 employees. Findings: The research results pointed out that the employees’ gender significantly shaped the correlation between all of the personality dimensions, on the one hand, and different facets of job satisfaction, on the other. Namely, in case of male employees, statistical significance was shown between Extraversion and Pay, Extraversion and Operating Conditions, Conscientiousness and Pay, Conscientiousness and Rewards, Neuroticism and Benefits. In case of female employees, the statistical significance was shown between Agreeableness and Benefits, Conscientiousness and Benefits and finally between Neuroticism and Supervision. Contribution: The obtained results may have practical implications in the form of providing the database for further improvement of the human resource management within the transitional economies, such as Serbian.
Employees’ job satisfaction is an important factor of shaping the organizational business performances. However, job satisfaction might depend on employees’ personality dimensions, such as: extraversion, negative affectivity, conscientiousness, agreeableness and openness to new experiences. Besides that, the employees’ job satisfaction, but also their personality dimensions, might be affected by the employees’ education degree. In respect to that, this research was oriented towards determining the effects of the employees’ education degree on the correlation between the employees’ job satisfaction and their personality dimensions. The survey research sample consisted of 116 respondents, employed within a large public monopolistic organization, oriented towards the energy sector, operating in transitional society. The research results indicated that employees’ education degree shaped the correlation between all personality dimensions, on the one hand, and the pay, benefits, relation between coworkers, supervision and nature of the work facets of job satisfaction, on the other. Beside theoretical contribution, the research results might have practical implication through providing the information necessary for improving human resource management in Serbia, a transitional economy with general business conditions different from those in developed countries.
