Son Ja m aCFa r l a ne k e y P oin t S • Te Pikinga ki Runga: Raising Possibilities is based on the human-rights principles within the Treaty of Waitangi. • Under the principle of partnership, effective partnerships with whånau are key. • Under the principle of protection, the framework envisages a strengths-based and holistic approach to student wellbeing. This is based on four domains-hononga (relational aspects), hinengaro (psychological aspects), tinana (physical aspects) and mana motuhake (self-concept). This project draws from these three imperatives to offer an education-specific framework for working with Mäori students and their whänau, Te Pikinga ki Runga: Raising Possibilities. SonJa maCFarlanE (Ngai Tahu; Ngati Waewae) is Pouhikiahurea/Practice Leader: Services to Maori for the Ministry of Education, Special Education. A former teacher, her work focuses on strengthening professional practice and service delivery for tamariki and whanau.
