Giant cell tumor of tendon sheath is a relatively rare non-malignant soft tissue tumor arising from the synovial cells and is associated with high recurrence rate. Many factors are considered for high recurrence including proximity to distal interphalangeal joints, presence of degenerative joint disease, pressure erosions in the radiograph and increased mitotic activity. But the most common cause for recurrence is incomplete surgical excision. However, it is the second most common tumor in hands after ganglion cysts. Here we present a case series comprising of 3 cases for whom marginal excision was done and they were kept on regular follow up without any recurrence.
Fibroadenoma of ectopic breast tissue is a rare disease. It is very important to rule out malignancy as carcinoma commonly occurs in ectopic breast tissue. Here we report a case of 48 years old female presenting with complaints of swelling in right axilla since 3 months. Fine needle aspiration cytology suggested fibroadenoma of right breast. Ultrasonography of axilla revealed no other swellings apart from the fibroadenoma. Patient underwent excision and biopsy. Histopathology confirmed it as fibroadenoma of the ectopic breast tissue.
Unlike other gastrointestinal neoplasms, small bowel tumours are often rare. Of this, leimyosarcoma of jejnum is extremely uncommon. Most of these patients are asymptomatic however in few cases may present with acute presentation such as intestinal obstruction, bleeding and perforation. A 35 years old female presented to the hospital with complaints of pain and vomiting. On palpation, an irregular 21x18cms lump with variable consistency and irregular borders which was intraabdominal and intraperitoneal. CECT revealed heterogenous, hypoechoic mass extending from epigastric to hypogastric region with probable diagnosis of mesenchymal tumour (probably GIST/LEIOMYOSARCOMA), however exact site of origin couldn’t be traced. Patient underwent exploratory laprotomy, 25x20cms irregular mass arising from jejunum was resected and sent for histopathological examination. HPE and immunohistochemistry revealed grade 3 leiomyosarcoma.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
