The contemporary philosophical understanding of scientific rationality fundamentally distinguishes itself from the conservative positions by what may be considered a categorial reorientation by which it is meant that it replaces the old categories by the new ones in terms of which the essential nature of the structure and dynamics of science are described and explained. In the beginning, the radicalization of the categorial framework has been brought through category transformation, which is very well exemplified in the nullification of the discovery-justification distinction. Apart from this parasitic semantic content, 'discovery' carried a negative meaning in terms of what it is not. With the nullification of the distinction, the semantic content of discovery has become not only autonomous, and positive but also, comprehensive so much as to become the focal concept in grasping the essence of scientific activity. These changes have fundamentally altered the discourse about discovery in ways that can be of momentous significance to science education (Schickore and Steinle, 2006). An attempt is made in this paper to illuminate how the denial of the divorce thesis has been justified by the philosophical arguments of
Police Education and Training is central to the successful realization of the constitutional democracy and protection of human rights. An attempt is made in this paper to evolve a curriculum framework for a people-sensitive Police Training and Education. One of the important objectives of this framework is to search for quality, standards, guidelines, and a general conceptual platform for improving basic Police Education and Training. This paper also aims at identifying general curricular parameters related to the development of a culture of policing, making policing practices more democratic and public-oriented to ensure greater security and more effective crime prevention. This paper argues that it is illogical, detrimental, and undesirable to separate police training from police education. Since policing is a highly respected professional field like medicine, it is imperative to integrate knowledge about society, dynamics of social and geopolitical spaces and human development from the complex socio-political perspective with police ethics and social and civic responsibilities and so on. In conclusion, this paper shows how people-sensitive and philosophically sound curricular policy for police education would serve people, communities, and societies. The ideas and insights in this paper are derived from the best practices available in the country and across the globe.
Art has been considered as a means of enriching oneself with values, transferring socio-cultural experience and traditions. Children articulate their wonder and excitement while engaging with an artwork and it is evident through their spontaneous responses. Aesthetic experience is regarded as fundamental to human existence. Experiencing and enjoying artworks help children to encounter diversities and prepare them for a facing challenge in life. The objective of the present quantitative study is to explore the relation between personality traits and art appreciation of children. The sample constituted sixty children of grade IX from the state of Telangana. The number of boys and girls participated in the study from rural and urban backgrounds are equal and children are in the age group of 13-15 years. Children’s artistic preferences are measured by showing 48 images of artworks of two dimensions: ‘abstractedness’ and ‘complexity’. The ‘abstractedness’ dimension include representational/realistic, semi-representational and highly abstract artworks and the ‘complexity’ dimension encompass low complexity, medium complexity, and high complexity artworks. Each group has four types of paintings: landscape, portrait, still life and animal representations. The results of analysis of the relation between children’s personality traits and their art preferences using Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient (r) reveals that Agreeableness and Conscientiousness is moderately positively correlated with the perceived attractiveness of abstract paintings which is statistically significant. The results do not show any statistically significant correlation between Openness to Experience and perceived attractiveness for abstract artworks. Further, there exists a low negative correlation between Neuroticism and perceived attractiveness for abstract artworks which is statistically significant. There are no significant correlations between children’s personality traits and perceived attractiveness for Realistic, High Complexity and Low Complexity artworks. The research findings are an indication for teachers to better design their classroom activities for enriching the lives of children.
Does an individual's inner cognitive sensitivity influence his /her recalling of dreams? Do girls recall more number of dreams than boys? This paper is an attempt to address these two questions through an empirical study conducted with 40 school children. Recent studies in dream research are enabling the scientific community to go deep into the complex cognitive processes, including the functioning of the whole personality. The dream recall questionnaire and the Cognitive Process Survey (CPS) designed and developed by Raymond F. Martinetti were circulated among the children and their responses were processed and analyzed. The data about dream recall were also crosschecked with dream diaries that were maintained by the children during the study period. It is found that boys and girls differ significantly with respect to the recalling of dreams and the most interesting finding of this study is that girl's recall more number of dreams compared to boys. Further, the Cognitive Process Survey (CPS) assessed children's inner cognitive sensitivity like, degree of imaginal life, orientation toward imaginal life and defensiveness. This study also discovered a strong and positive correlation between dream recall and the inner imaginal sensitivity of children. The findings of this study are consistent with the studies conducted by cognitive psychologists and clinical psychologists in the field of dream research.
