Nagari Tabek Panjang is one of Nagari (local government), which has several attractions located in Kecamatan Baso, Kabupaten Agam. One of them is the Ikan Sakti Sungai Janiah attraction. This attraction lacks tourist facilities for lodging in the form of Homestay. This can be developed by utilizing local community houses and traditional houses in the tourist attraction environment. However, local people do not yet understand how to prepare and manage Homestay that meet the standards. Collaboration between the University and the community is expected to provide a solution to the Improvement of Local Community Knowledge and Skills in Managing Homestay. The purpose of community service activities was to facilitate and help the community in terms of the problem faced. The form of activities that have been carried out is providing training on Homestay management, helping to identify and analyze a proper community house into a Homestay, making a pilot Homestay, and registering a Homestay brand. Besides, training on makeup room and Homestay promotion was also carried out through the Nagari web built by Universitas Negeri Padang and Homestay brochure.
Archipelago tourism has become a widely popular marine tourism destination for visitors and a tourism trend. Sustainable island tourism, which emphasizes environmental, economic, and socio-cultural impacts, is the basis of tourism growth. This article examines tourists' perceptions of Mandeh archipelago's tourist destinations based on sustainable tourism growth. Questionnaires and literature research were the approaches used to collect research results. The data was analyzed using descriptive frequency statistics presented in the form of percentages. The results showed that the characteristics of tourists, seen from gender, dominate female tourists by 67 percent, with a very active age between 17-25 years of age, is 78 percent. The majority of those who visit Mandeh Island more than once are 69%, 72% with friends, and a group. Overall, the Mandeh Islands' expectations of sustainable tourism growth are strong, but some still have issues related to the quality of the Mandeh tourism region's environment. From this study, it can be seen that environmental measures of sustainable tourism growth need to be strengthened again. As for having a positive effect on sustainable tourism growth in the tourist destinations of the Mandeh archipelago, the collaboration between tourism stakeholders needs to be increased again.
Abstract-Technology and economic developments are in line with the need of English skills for specific fields, including English for Civil Engineering. In preparation for graduates, Civil Engineering Department of Universitas Negeri Padang provides English for Civil Engineering course. The acceptance of graduates in employment increases, especially, for the fresh graduates who are mastering English in their area of expertise. This study investigates the need analysis of the students who are learning English for civil engineering. This research was conducted using survey method. Research data was taken through questionnaires and interviews with students, lecturers, and corporate leaders. From the result of need analysis, it was found the English skills, the teaching methodology, the topic, and the language focus needed by the civil engineering students. The results of this study provide recommendations for the development of English for Civil Engineering curriculum. Most of developing and developed companies expect their employee is having an adequate communication in English besides their major fields. Jawhar, in Yasin et al. (2010), states that in the private sector, graduates are becoming unemployable as a result of lack of proficiency in the English language. It means that English proficiency is equally important to the employees' principal field. Furthermore, since the graduates of an education institution, university, or college are prepared to work in a specific kind of job, the same as companies expectation, it is better for them to be taught English which is specified for communication in their major field. The English learning should be able to lead the students to learn English related to their major area appropriately, effectively, and efficiently, so that the learning English can be meaningful and helpful for the students in facing the real work challenges.Due to the English skill required at work, the English course at higher education needs to be correlated with the students' needs for a certain target situation. The course then should provide broadly English knowledge related to the students' major field. The focus of specifiable content of the course is not only on specific language features, vocabulary, or grammar but also on what skills needed by the learners in communication using English in the workplace (Hutchinson, 1987). Consequently, English course should facilitate the students with relevant English skill which can support their professional career. The COVID-19 pandemic that has hit the world, including Indonesia, has had a crucial influence on the tourism industry. It is undeniable that the tourism industry in Indonesia seems to be in suspended animation due to unpreparedness for this disaster. From the supply side, tourism entrepreneurs are overwhelmed because of the absence of visits due to flight closures, travel minimization, and strict rules regarding the closure of tourist attractions during 2019. From the demand side, the community's need for tourism remains high, interest in traveling is even greater after one year "at home". In mid-2020 when tourism policies began to be relaxed, there was a revival of this industry's revival. There has been a change in tourist travel patterns during this pandemic, not just looking for beautiful tourist attractions, but also safe areas. The research that has been done shows that the pattern of tourist visits changes, there is an adaptation to the pandemic conditions. In-depth interviews were conducted on informants to obtain accurate data, tourists and tourist attraction managers were key informants. Globally, ecotourism are struggling in implementing sustainable tourism principles. It is therefore important to identify source of challenges at planning process to avoid recurring problems in the future. Such a problema is apparent in the Koto Katik Ecopark in Padang Panjang, West Sumatera, despite government efforts utilizes the enormous opportunity for ecotourism development This paper evaluates the principles of sustainable tourism development adopted in the ecopark planning process. This research is based descriptive qualitative analysis data was collected through legal documents related to the planning process of Koto Katik Ecopark development. The data analysis includes description of the koto katik eco-park area, the potential for regional development, and examination of how sustainable tourism attributes exist. This study analyzes critical issues of ecotourism sustainable developmen, objectives, principles, and characteristics of the koto katik eco-park and their comparison with relevant theories and umtimately reveals the extent to which the principles of sustainable tourism development principles are followed. The result of the study shows that planning does not meet the principles of sustainable tourism development, such as the absence of conservation programs, design of tourism activities, distribution of stakeholder power, in planning, managing, and supervising ecotourism areas, analyzing the capabilities and expertise of local human resources, as well as supporting infrastructure and technology.
