Local culture-based learning is potential learning with integrates and emphasizes culture locally in the learning process. Learning through culture could be raised up of students’ appreciation for the local culture. This study potentials to improve students’ interesting, enrich vocabulary, metacognitive, and four basic language skills for younger learners “it is time to speak, it is time read, it is time to read, and the last one, time to listen. The subjects of this study were students’ primary school level, less than ten years consist of 20 boys and 14 girls, totaling is 34 students. This study used descriptive qualitative techniques in describing the improvement experienced by students. And the data used of this research were gathered by 1) observation; 2) interview; 3) documentation. The results of this study showed that 20 students felt interesting in learning English, 10 students showed progress in vocabulary, and the rest did not show any progress, and, this is influenced by the internal factors of the students. It is also recommended that puzzle local culture-based can be used as a media to motivate young learners in learning English. By doing this, the teacher could assess not only their interest to learn English but also their understanding of their local cultures.
This research aimed to investigate the teacher’s expression in the classroom environment. Regarding the issue, there is one main purpose of the study that is to investigate the language choice of the teacher in teaching English as a foreign language. The investigation is aimed to explore the field of language teaching specifically in terms of the language choice by the teacher in teaching English as Foreign Language (EFL) which can be improved. Classroom environmental investigation was conducted in this study since it enabled the researcher to record behavior as it is happening. The data then transcripted and coded to get the core. Based on the data in this study it can be concluded that essentially teacher had complied with the language choice changeably for the use of English as the target language and the use of Indonesia as the students’ first language (L1). The teacher participant uses TL just for simple communication with the students in her classroom environment.
The objective of the research was to find out: (1) whether or not the students are interested in learning through Belajar Bahasa Inggris with ACO Application; (2) Students’ perception in Learning English through Belajar Bahasa Inggris with ACo Application. The research was conducted by using mixed method design (Quan-qual) model. The research applied cluster random sampling by taking one class as the sample. The sample consists of 30 students of A3Accounting Class of STIE Muhammadiyah Palopo. The data were collected through questionnaire and supported by interview. The result of the research showed that the students are interested in learning English through Belajar Bahasa Inggris with ACO Application. Furthermore, the students have positive perception toward the application and the most favourable menu in the application is “chat” and “talk.”
This research aims to find out: (1) whether the use of English Listening Lesson Library Online (ELLLO) affects the students’ Listening comprehension achievement and (2) students’ perception tow Engish Listening Lesson Library Online (ELLLLO). This research employed Quan-Qual method with a type of quasi-experimental design namely regression discontinuity design. The population was the second year students of SMAN 3 Palopo which consisting of nine classes in 2014/2015 academic year. The total number of population was 270 students. This research used the combination of random sampling and nonrandom sampling technique, random sampling to decide the sample of the quantitative analysis and nonrandom sampling to decide the qualitative analysis. The data were collected by two instruments namely a listening test and interview. The description of data collected through the listening comprehension test showed that ELLLO (English Listening Lesson Library Online) is significantly affecting the students listening comprehension. All students agree that English listening Lesson Library Online (ELLLO) is a good supporting media since they have used it for about six weeks and their favourite activity is game activities. This research aims to enhance students' vocabulary mastery through Hello English smartphone application. This research applied experimental with one group pre-test post-test design. The population was the students of SMA Muhammadiyah Palopo that consist of five classes. Then, the sample taken were 25 students of class X by using cluster sampling technique. Based on the data analysis, it can be seen that the mean score of the pretest was 52,52 while the mean score of the posttest was 80,64. Furthermore, the significant value of paired sample test was smaller than the significant level (0,000 < 0,05). It means that the H1 was accepted and H0 was rejected. In conclusion, Hello English smartphone application significantly enhanced the students’ vocabulary mastery.
