The aim of this study is to identify the decision-making and problem-solving skill levels of hospital administrators and to determine these skills’ interrelations with other administrative skills. The study comprised a population of 494 hospital administrators (head doctors, hospital managers, head nurses and their assistants) and was carried out in 26 hospitals affiliated to the Ministry of Health in the city centre of Ankara. Three hundred and thirty-four administrators (67 per cent of the population) participated in the study. To identify the decision-making, problem-solving and other administrative skill levels of the hospital administrators, a scale developed by Sperry (2003) and adapted into Turkish by Şimşek (2006) was used. As a result of the study; a weak, positive and statistically significant relationship has been found between the decision-making and problem-solving skills of hospital administrators and their motivation, loyalty and team performance skills. However, it was determined that there is a moderate, positive and statistically significant relationship between the skills of the delegation and empowerment, effective and strategic communication, conflict management, coaching, consulting and negotiating, the fit of organizational resources with human resources, and time and stress management. It could be suggested that more research be carried out into the reasons why other management skills are at moderately developed levels and that training programmes be organized to develop these skills.
BACKGROUND: Nurses experience loneliness, anxiety, fear, fatigue, sleep disorders, and other physical and mental health problems due to their close contact with patients in cases of epidemic diseases. Among nurses in Turkey, we want to explore how anxiety, psychological health, and social isolation affect nurses’ quality of life. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to investigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the quality of life (COVID-19 EQLS), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-1 and STAI-2), psychological health, and social isolation among nurses. It also aimed to identify whether the influence of trait anxiety, psychological health, and social isolation are stronger than the direct influence of state anxiety on nurses’ quality of life during the pandemic. METHODS: A cross-sectional study design and STROBE guidelines were implemented. In this study, 638 nurses in Turkey were included using simple random sampling. The participants completed the STAI-1 and STAI-2 and COVID-19 EQLS online-form. The parallel-serial mediation model was used to examine the relationships between the determined variables. RESULTS: Psychological health, psychological effects of social isolation, and trait anxiety fully mediated the relationship between state anxiety and quality of life of nurses. The total indirect effect of the confidence interval of bootstrapping was statistically different from zero. CONCLUSIONS: Trait anxiety, psychological health, and social isolation were the main factors with statistically significant indirect effects on the quality of life of Turkish nurses in this study.
Aim:The purpose of this study is to evaluate and compare the use of 112 emergency ambulance services in Konya and Turkey within the years 2007, 2008, and 2009 Method: A retrospective descriptive study has been referred. The study variables are the number of ambulances, the reason for the emergency call, number of cases, preliminary diagnoses of the ambulance crew, and the results of crew intervention. Result:In the case of analysing the reasons of ambulance calls carried out in these three years; it is observed that calls for medical purposes have the share at the rate of 70% approximately. The second highest reason for calls is the traffic accidents. Considering both Turkey and Konya datum; although the trauma has had the highest rate among the pre-diagnosis reasons, it is on decline. In 2009, each of every four calls was resulted in transferring the patients from one hospital to the other. Conclusion:When the results about the usage of ambulances are analysed; it is observed that the province of Konya has the results that are close to or above the country average in terms of each evaluated criteria. The qualification of services provided by ambulance crew has significance in order to be able to evaluate the quality of 112 services.
With technology, a rapid change in health care practices have occured. In this review, it is aimed to emphasize the importance of technology for nursing education and to introduce some technology applications used in nursing education. The widespread use of technology in nursing services due to the need for nursing workforce affects nursing education. Both the increase in expectations in the quality of delivery of developing health services and the efforts to increase the competence of students have made use of technology in nursing practice a necessity. In the developing world of education, the use of technology is expected to serve as a bridge in the gap between theoretical knowledge and clinical practice, which is the problem of traditional methods. Through these applications, students can see the result of the action by finding countless possibilities of experimentation, which has a positive effect on learning success. For an effective training that can adapt to rapidly changing education and maintenance technologies, a change process involving all parties should be planned. It is thought that the presence of the generation of educators and students who can actively use these technologies will have an important role in carrying the nursing profession to the future. In this review, the importance of the use of technology in nursing education and some of the applications of technology used in nursing education in the world are specified.
