A backlight arraying electrodeless fluorescent lamps assembled with capacity coupled electrode connector has been improved to be commercialized with a newly developed switching inverter as small as size about 10×5×1 cm. With the square pulses of the driving frequency 55 kHz, the high efficiency of 60 lm/W and the brightness of about 8,000 cd/m2 in the 17‐inch and 20.1‐inch diagonal panels, have been obtained, respectively.
The efficiency of EEFLs with the new glass tube of high dielectric constant K~6.6 and low dielectric loss tan δ, reaches 45 lm/W which is ~ 20 % higher than 38 lm/W in the conventional glasses of K ~ 5.5. And this new glass tube
