Reading comprehension of texts is a basic competency in the Indonesian Subject Curriculum. The observation results show that reading comprehension is still low, especially reading comprehension of the meaning of the text and the context of a text. From these problems, it is necessary to conduct research on the level of reading comprehension of grade VII students of SMP Negeri 06, Rejang Lebong. This research aimed at describing the level of reading comprehension ability and the causes of students' misunderstanding in grade VII of SMP Negeri 06 Rejang Lebong on reading text material. This research belongs to mixed method design. The subjects of this study were 28 students of class VII from SMP Negeri 06, Rejang Lebong. Data were collected using tests, observation, interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. Data validity test is done by member checking, which is assisted by language validator and triangulation. The results showed that students were not accustomed to reading texts and there were still those who were not fluent in reading.
The objectives of this study are to determine the ability of students Pendidikan Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia (PBSI), FKIP, Universitas PGRI Yogyakarta (UPY) in writing scientific papers; and to find out the difficulties of students in writing scientific papers. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The population in this study were PBSI students who were conducted in the odd semester of the 2021/2022 academic year. The sample is 31 students of class G-1 who take Psycholinguistics courses. Data in the form of scientific papers were collected in the middle of the semester of Psycholinguistics lectures. The scientific paper was analyzed using research instruments. The writing ability assessed includes five aspects, namely (1) ideas, (2) organization, (3) grammar, (4) diction, and (5) spelling. Based on the assessment, each is categorized into five, namely (1) very good with a score range of 86-100, (2) good with a score range of 68-85, (3) sufficient with a score range of 48-67, (4) less with range of values from 32 to 47, and (5) very less with a range of values <32. The results of this study stated that 31 students or 100% got an average score of 78.15 with the highest score of 83 and the lowest score of 72. This category of scores was included in good. Their abilities in expressing ideas, organization of essays, and choosing diction are good. Their shortcomings are average in terms of grammar and spelling.
The purpose of this study is to understand the cultural shock in the language aspect experienced by the students of the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program when speaking in Indonesian in front of the class, both in verbal and nonverbal communication. A descriptive qualitative method is used in this research. The subject of this research is students from the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program who come from the region of Bengkulu province and whose parents work as farmers, artisans, traders, or laborers. The technique used for selecting informants was purposive sampling. Data were collected with the use of observation and interview techniques. Data obtained from the interviews with students were analyzed through data collection steps, data processing, data analysis, and conclusions. The findings of the study indicate that foreign students who speak Indonesian experience a cultural shock regarding the language aspect, both in verbal and nonverbal communication, when speaking in front of the class using the Indonesian language.
