Bel Canto Singing Technique. This article attempting to understand the subjectivity of a woman singer in musicperformance. The poststructuralist feminist perspective is used to focus on the historical and cultural backgroundof the woman’s experiences. Based on the perspective, the research questions refer to: 1) the application of womansinger’s knowledge and cultural perception in songs reproduction so that she can (re)construct her subjectivity; and2) the intention of woman singer to use Western classical music or seriosa in music performance. The life historymethod is used to understand all the subjective experiences of woman singer based on her perspective. The fi ndingsof this research are: 1) subjectivity (re)construction of a woman singer is depend on her knowledge and culturalperception so that her subjectivity is differ from others; and 2) the difference that a woman singer do in musicperformance is related to her intention, i.e. to struggle a music genre that she loves since in the early of her life.
This article shows the knowledge and cultural perception of an Indonesian woman singer, Nyak Ina Raseuki (Ubiet), that was achieved through her musical experiences in social life and constructed her singing style as her aesthetic mastery (connoisseur). Her singing style is used to reproduce songs from the variety of musical genres so that constructed her subjectivity in Indonesian popular music. One of the songs is analyzed in this article is Kr. Kemayoran, a song in the genre of keroncong. The research questions focus on 1) the construction of knowledge and cultural perception of Ubiet to construct her subjectivity, and 2) Ubiet’s way to explore Kr. Kemayoran so that showed the difference from others. This research used the life history method to understand Ubiet’s knowledge and cultural perception and the critical musicology to analyze the song. The research findings are the connoisseur is not depend only on formal education, but on the variety of musical practices in Ubiet’s life. Besides it, Ubiet’s subjectivity more focused on her musical competencies, i.e. her wide vocal range, the ability to explore many songs with microtones, local ornaments, as well as her ability to follow the development of meter and tonalilty (modulation) that are preceded by the music accompaniment. This research was conducted to figure out the representation of local styles in Cingcangkeling performance at the international choir festival as a reflection of cultural identity. There are several studies on folksong, but generally, they only focus on music analysis; and do not explain the representation of local styles in folksong performances at the international choir festival. This research aims to figure out: a) the local style representation in the Cingcangkeling performance at international choir festivals; b ) the relationship between local styles represented in the Cingcangkeling performance with Sundanese cultural identity. It uses a qualitative method with a performance ethnographic approach as the design of the study which combines music and non-musical elements. The subject of this research is the Cingcangkeling performance (West Java) which was performed by PSM UPI at the 8th Bali International Choir Festival (BICF) in 2019. Data collection techniques were obtained through preliminary study, audio and video analysis, and interviews. The results of this study indicate that: 1) the representation of local styles in the Cingcangkeling song, both musically and non-musically, involves the bodor character (comedy) that is identical to Sundanese culture (West Java); 2) the choir does not only act as performers but also reflects the uniqueness and beauty of the Sundanese culture. The conclusion shows that the representation of local styles in the Cingcangkeling performance at international level festivals, both musically and non-musically, not only reflects Sundanese cultural identity but also shows the role of choir groups as ‘cultural ambassadors’ who introduce the uniqueness of Sundanese culture in the international world.
The Approach of Orff-Schulwerk for Prospective Music Teachers in Kindergarten Schools. The topic in this article focuses on the application of Orff-Schulwerk for university students as prospective teachers in school, including kindergarten. Orff-Schulwerk can be seen as an approach to music education. In related to primary education, this approach focuses on the children needs and develops children musicality through necessary activities (elemental) in music and movement. Some questions in this article are: 1) what kind of Orff-Schulwerk that can be used by prospective teachers in the learning process at kindergarten? 2) what benefits can be obtained by teacher candidates through the application of the Orff-schulwerk approach? And 3) how do prospective teachers who use this approach can understand their role in learning? The method used in this study is action research. The findings in this research are prospective teachers understand that: 1) Orff-Schulwerk can be used in related to explorationimagination -creation that involving music and movement; 2) this approach is useful for developing student musicality in the learning process in kindergarten; and 3) in this approach, prospective teachers are acted as facilitators who can create an atmosphere of learning that stimulate students' imagination and creation. This study concludes that the Orff-Schulwerk approach should be mastered by prospective teachers who teach in schools, including kindergarten. By having an understanding of this approach, both theoretically and practically, prospective teachers not only enhance their knowledge but also support the national education goals, namely the students' character building in schools. ABSTRAKArtikel ini memfokuskan pada penerapan pendekatan Orff-schulwerk bagi mahasiswa caloncalon guru di sekolah taman kanak kanak (TK). Orff-schulwerk dapat dipandang sebagai suatu pendekatan dalam pendidikan musik. Dalam hubungannya dengan pendidikan dasar, pendekatan ini memfokuskan pada kebutuhan anak dan menumbuhkembangkan musikalitas setiap anak melalui aktivitas-aktivitas dasar (elemental) dalam musik dan gerakan. Pertanyaan yang dikemukakan dalam artikel ini adalah: 1) pendekatan Orff-schulwerk seperti apa yang digunakan calon guru untuk pembelajaran di TK?, 2) manfaat apa saja yang dapat diperoleh calon guru melalui penerapan pendekatan Orff-schulwerk dalam proses pembelajaran?, dan 3) bagaimana calon guru yang menggunakan pendekatan ini dapat memahami peranan mereka dalam pembelajaran di TK?. Metode yang digunakan dalam kajian ini adalah penelitian tindakan. Penemuan dalam penelitian ini adalah para calon guru memahami bahwa: 1) pendekatan Orff-schulwerk yang dapat digunakan berhubungan dengan eksplorasi -imajinasi -kreasi yang melibatkan musik dan gerakan, 2) pendekatan ini bermanfaat untuk menumbuhkembangkan musikalitas siswa dalam proses pembelajaran di TK, dan 3) calon guru yang menerapkan pendekatan ini berperan sebagai fasilitator yang dapat menciptakan suasana pembelajaran yang menstimuli imajinasi dan kreasi siswa.
