Ko Kret" is a small island of 4.12 square kilometres in the Chao Phraya River. The community of Ko Kret is a traditional settlement with historical value and identity. The residents are mainly from the Mon ethnic group, and have preserved their culture as expressed beautifully through their lifestyle, architecture and cultural activities, including temples, ancient houses, the style of settlement and the pottery artwork. At present, community development as well as cultural and art conservation facilitate tourism on this island. If the Ko Kret community can both display its way of life and manage the impact of tourism then Ko Kret can be protected as a living historic gem of the Chao Phraya River.
This paper present the preliminary study of post occupancy evaluation (POE) model on neighborhood assessment criteria towards sustainable urban development. The aim of the study is to developed a POE model based on sustainable pillar dimensions. The objective is to identify and formulate POE model towards sustainable neighborhood development and to implement the model in assessing and evaluate GBI certified neighborhood towards sustainable urban development for Malaysia. The consensus-based approached is used in this study in order to gather experts' opinion regarding the proposed POE model for sustainable neighborhood development for the certified GBI neighborhood project. The significant contribution of the research is the POE model for future sustainable neighborhood development for Malaysia and similar development phenomenon in the region of ASEAN nations and country throughout the world.
Sustainable development is key to the strategic sustainability within a society. Sustainable neighbourhood development (SND) is a fundamental element of a sustainable community. However, SND on it own will certainly not permit all stakeholders, particularly the end-users, to efficiently address current or projected future issues that positioned beyond the extent of physical development scope. Thus, this research aims to explore whether pre-occupancyassessment criteria addresses the adaptive measures of sustainable dimension pillars (SDP) upon post-occupancy holistically. The research objective is to identify the post-occupancy sustainable criteria gap of SND. To achieve this, the research applied Stakeholders-Inclusion Approach using Post-Occupancy Evaluation Model (POEM) Handbook as measurement tool. This research seeks to measure and identify SDP gap on economic, social and environmental balance and responsive approach towards incremental improvements in SND at community and individual levels. The findings indicated that there are SDP adaptation gaps in post-occupied SND.
