A person living with Alzheimer's disease (PA) can experience difficulty during bodily care and therefore may show resistance to care behaviours (RTCBs). Nurses must take a clinical approach to planning care that meets the person's needs. Therefore, it is necessary to identify training strategies for bedside nurses and nursing students. Aims and objectives: To describe and discuss how the FOC practice process (FOC-PP) can help nurses understand PAs who show RTCBs during bodily care. Background: Resistance to care behaviour phenomenon and the importance of bodily care as fundamental care are described. The FOC-PP enables nurses to apply the FOC framework in their practice. Design: This discursive paper is based on the literature of the FOC framework and PP. Method: A clinical scenario that develops through the five stages of the FOC-PP. Results: The scenario centres on Mrs. Emily Morgan, 81, who lives in a nursing home and is not receiving the bodily care that she needs. Camille, a nursing student, and her supervisor Florence collaborate with Mrs. Morgan's family to improve the quality of her care. Three particular aspects of nursing practice based on the FOC-PP are described: the critical thinking process, relational process and pedagogical process. Conclusion: The FOC-PP promotes holistic care centred on the person and his or her needs and encourages the nurse to use his or her skills and knowledge. All these dimensions are fundamental for high-quality nursing care. Relevance to clinical practice: Mrs. Morgan's scenario enables us to perceive that the FOC-PP is very useful for nursing students and bedside nurses. However, given the amount of specific and diverse knowledge required by the FOC-PP, it is necessary to identify avenues for teaching them. Using clinical scenarios could facilitate the integration of the FOC-PP, with taking into account the specific characteristics of individual clients. Background Population ageing will lead to an increase in the number of older drivers. The ageing process can affect older adults’ driving ability. Nurses can play a major role in identifying potentially at‐risk drivers and providing guidance about driving safety and cessation, but their role remains somewhat unknown. Objective This scoping review aims to present the scientific literature in relation to the nursing profession in the field of road safety. Design CINAHL and PubMed databases were used to identify quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods or clinical practice guideline articles that referred to the role of nurses in older people's road safety and were published in English or French languages between January 1990 and August 2020. Ten (10) articles met the inclusion criteria and were analysed. Results Analysis of included articles revealed one main theme: Nurses’ and NPs’ roles in the mobility continuum. Results showed that nurses and nurse practitioners (NPs) often see older drivers in their clinical practice and that they have the competencies to screen and assess their fitness to drive. They are well positioned to discuss age‐related changes, fitness to drive and a driving retirement plan with their older patients, but they are not confident when addressing this issue. Few older adults have discussed their driving abilities with healthcare professionals, but they would be willing to discuss this if the subject were brought up. Conclusions This scoping review highlighted the paucity of research addressing the role of the nurse in road safety. More research is needed to adequately document this role.
La télésanté connait un essor fulgurant en ce contexte de pandémie. Or, en cette période d’insécurité mondiale, la santé préventive reprend ses droits. En période de déconfinement, la discipline et la cohésion sociale peuvent se relâcher. Cette enquête sociale vise à décrire un programme d'intervention à distance, réalisé en partenariat avec des locataires de logement communautaire, des infirmières et des étudiantes pour soutenir la littératie en santé au temps de la COVID-19. Le Programme de déconfinement en toute sécurité vise à renforcer les mesures préventives et de soutien avec des groupes en contexte de vulnérabilités économiques et sociales à l’aide de la télésanté. Les infirmières ont développé des pratiques cliniques et psychosociales et renforcé la littératie en santé, soutenant les mesures de santé publique post-COVID-19, surveillant l’éclosion de nouveaux foyers et apaisant les souffrances issues du confinement. À l’aide de cibles de performance des systèmes de santé et d’une perspective de justice sociale, nous avons documenté les défis, les leviers et les menaces à l’usage des pratiques à distance en prévention. Vecteur d’une approche intégrée, la télésanté préventive peut cibler simultanément, la lutte contre les maladies non transmissibles et transmissibles et les inégalités. La pandémie de COVID-19 renvoie à un nouvel équilibre des enjeux qui exige un accompagnement et des pratiques de santé communautaire engagées et critiques.
Depuis 2008, un regroupement international soutient la promotion d’une meilleure réponse aux besoins fondamentaux des personnes soignées. Ce regroupement propose un cadre sur les fondamentaux des soins. Ce cadre est centré sur la relation entre l’infirmier, la personne soignée et ses proches ainsi que sur la réponse aux besoins physiques, psychosociaux et relationnels. Un processus pratique soutient l’application concrète de ce cadre. Le but de cet article discursif est de présenter la traduction française du cadre des fondamentaux des soins et de son processus pratique. Pour commencer, le processus de traduction sera brièvement expliqué. Ensuite, le cadre sur les fondamentaux des soins et les étapes de son processus pratique seront présentés. Afin de permettre une meilleure appropriation du contenu par le lecteur, une illustration clinique présente la situation de M. Perron, atteint d’une maladie d’Alzheimer, et de sa conjointe, qui est sa proche aidante. Enfin, la discussion aborde l’utilité du cadre des fondamentaux des soins et de son processus pratique au niveau des quatre grands axes de la discipline infirmière, soit la pratique, la gestion, la formation et la recherche. Cet article ouvre la voie au développement de connaissances sur les fondamentaux des soins au niveau de la francophonie.
