This paper analyzes the important role of jamu in the complementary medical market of Indonesia by exploring the four types of market valuation as proposed in the social order of market by Jens Beckert (Beckert, 2009). Different from studies conducted by Srivastava et al. (2021), Kumar et al. (2021), Neto et al. (2020), and Poonthananiwatkul et al. (2015) that mostly discuss physical and material value, specifically on the product standardization and pharmacological characteristics of traditional medicine at the respective Asian countries, this study focuses on both material and symbolic qualities of jamu in Indonesia. By presenting market valuation as a composite of standardization, cognitive anchoring, normative legitimation, and social positioning, this study reveals that Jamu is more recognized by its symbolic value than its material or physical value. As a methodological novelty, this study illustrates how to visualize the pattern and structure of connectivity between words as a value formation process in jamu market by employing TNA and corpus-based SNA using Gephi and WORDij software. This study also illustrates a theoretical operationalization of how the issue of product valuation in the market as social order is justified by empirical evidence.
Covid-19 has resulted in social activities limitation by the Indonesia government, one of which is related to teaching and learning activities in the university. The Sociology Department of the University of Indonesia took steps by replacing usual lectures to online lectures or E-learning. Unlike usual lectures, E-learning suddenly challenges students to change their study habits. According to that statement, the research question was "how was the adaptation strategy undertaken by the Sociology Department of the University of Indonesia related to the teaching and learning process during the COVID-19 pandemic?" Thus, the aim of research is to apply the adaptation strategies, according to Smith's (1986) concept regarding an action plan at a certain period of time, group or the whole human being as an effort in steps with inside and outside their capabilities. E-learning concept by Horton ( 2010) is all forms of information and computer technology in creating learning experiences (formulated, organized, and created through internet devices). This research uses quantitative methods. The results show that lectures with the E-learning system were not effective with a score of 2.84 within a 1-5 scale. The Obstacles show the difficulties in the understanding materials, unstable signals, unsupported devices, and psychological problems. The E-learning barriers strategies commonly taken to overcome the obstacles are to ask colleagues for help, to search for the references using google searching engine, and to get social support from colleagues and families. The University of Indonesia E-learning system has not worked effectively yet. For this reason, contextual solutions are still needed to develop teaching and learning systems in order to remain effective despite the challenges during Covid-19 pandemic.
Protective clothing for health workers requires heat transfer in hot and humid environments. To study the thermal conduction of phase-change materials and protect them from leakage, we selected skin-friendly shea-butter due to its suitable melting temperature, and the electrospinning processibility of biocompatible cellulose acetate. The shea-butter as a phase-change material was encapsulated in electrospun cellulose acetate fibres within a core/sheath structure, which was stabilised by two concentric Taylor cones during coaxial electrospinning. Transmission and scanning electron microscopy revealed a blood-in-tube vessel-like morphology. Next, differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analyses confirmed the heat capacity of shea-butter (latent heat of fusion: 42.73 J/g; thermal conductivity: 1.407 W/m∙K). The flow rate of the core was proportional to the heat capacity of the shea-butter/cellulose acetate fibres. This was consistent with the finding that the electrospun fibres of the highest-ratio shea-butter (16.19%) had the highest thermal conductivity (0.421 J/g∙K). The shea-butter:cellulose acetate ratio was approximately 15:80. The efficacy of heat transfer for the core/sheath fibres in human clothing was assessed by measuring skin temperatures at 13 sites in six males aged 25 to 35 under two conditions: wearing a mask and hood with attached cellulose acetate fibres in the presence and absence of shea-butter. The mean difference in skin temperatures (0.5 ℃) between the two conditions was significant. Coaxial electrospinning of shea-butter/cellulose acetate fibres is therefore promising for protective clothing with efficient heat-transfer in the use of a large area.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
