This initiative examined systematically the extent to which a large set of archival research findings generalizes across contexts. We repeated the key analyses for 29 original strategic management effects in the same context (direct reproduction) as well as in 52 novel time periods and geographies; 45% of the reproductions returned results matching the original reports together with 55% of tests in different spans of years and 40% of tests in novel geographies. Some original findings were associated with multiple new tests. Reproducibility was the best predictor of generalizability—for the findings that proved directly reproducible, 84% emerged in other available time periods and 57% emerged in other geographies. Overall, only limited empirical evidence emerged for context sensitivity. In a forecasting survey, independent scientists were able to anticipate which effects would find support in tests in new samples.

ABSTRACTPurpose À The UN Global Compact promotes values of precautionary approach to environmental changes and business sustainability, which are eagerly embraced by MNCs; however the recognized emerging country risks pose a challenge for continuous commitment to those principles in the subsidiaries. Especially political and currency risks are considered significant in the subsidiaries located in the emerging markets. Therefore, those risks are often shifted to the local partners as the pursued core principle of the risk management strategies. The objective of MNCs is in fact to limit MNCs responsibility for the liabilities and losses in the emerging markets in case of market downturns, and in effect the advocated risk management practices exacerbate the severity of the emerging market crises.Methodology/approach À The chapter explores those corporate practices on the examples of numerous major international market players in case of several historical, but recent examples of the emerging market currency crises.Findings À The concerns addressed in the chapter include: the preference for local financing exposing at risk local banking sectors in the emerging markets, excessive liquidity and minimal capital commitments and investments leading to weaker currency fluctuations and resulting in private capital speculations and capital flight (to safety or to quality). The intensified global competition for international investments in form of FDIs resulted in the erosion of the capital requirements, reduced social and business infrastructure commitments requested, limited currency controls, and other components of the regulatory framework easing in the emerging markets. Other identified in the research key components of the risk management strategies applied by MNCs, destabilizing the emerging markets in financial (both fiscal and currency) crises include: intercompany payments and financing such as: transfer pricing, local sourcing and reimbursements for both tangible and intangible assets transfer.Implications À Demonstrated approach of MNCs appears ethically questionable and reflects the disparity of the bargaining powers. This study was conducted in 14 countries of Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) as well as in Buffalo, NY. The mixed method, i.e. qualitative and quantitative was employed with the intention of understanding the people"s perception regarding women who participate in the business. In addition a t-test was carried out using SPSS to find the mean differences between the two parties, and the US was actually included as a study model. From respondents" point of views, it was revealed that no mean differences in perception between participants from SSA and those from Buffalo, NY in relation to women who participate in business. However, respondents from both sides indicated discrimination and unfairness against women participating in business to be a widespread problem. Strangely, participants, and the literature review, indicated the reverence of women relies on the level of education and the work position that women hold in the society. The study concludes that when solving issues of discrimination / unfairness against women in the business, it would be wise to include both men and women and not women alone. Finally, the family level training to address the problem must start from early ages of children at home, since tradition families continue to be the foundation of education for children and of the social life.
