The paper gives a phenomenological description of the whole arcing process which takes place in high rupturing capacity HRC fuses with a single notched fuse-element, but in particular the fuse-element burn-back and arc-channel physics. All considerations are based upon existing literature and the authors' extensive short-circuit experiments in the range 3-30 kA (RMS), 550 V, 50 Hz. Three stages are considered: arc-ignition, arc-burning, post-arc recovery withstand.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
