This is transition time for conventional libraries, especially in India. They are trying hard to transform to digital libraries (DL) but there are various issues involved in it. It is crucial to understand these issues by doing more research to find out appropriate solutions. The purpose of this study is thus to review the existing research done on digital libraries, in order to find the gaps and develop new dimensions to be studied. Secondary data is used from different sources mainly e-journals to conduct meta-analysis on selected papers. The findings show that the research studies can be broadly categorized into five dimensions viz Uses and users issues in DL, organizational design and structure of DL, technology usage, usability, and staff and people's perception of DL. It is unique as the dimensions have been derived for the first time, which gives a direction to do research on the unidentified or unexplored areas like genderblind approaches in implementing digital technologies. Further research can be done to include those research issues, which have not been covered so far.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
